TOPIC: All 2023 Auctions

All 2023 Auctions 1 year 5 months ago #13

I don't have a problem with any of this. I've pretty much been doing it already, other than the invoice thing. That feels excessive, though I can see how it'd make newer players or people who don't use the forums a lot feel safer. I'd like to think that by this point people that have been active in the community for awhile know me well enough to trust me. I've had people annoyed by the auction rules I've posted before, but never had anyone that felt cheated.

Thanks for the explanation. That hadn't even occurred to me as something that would happen.

That was my first post, if you don't trust an auctioneer, don't deal with them!

here is a crazy thought...

how about, wait for it, don't auction something unless you are holding it in your hand. this whole futures auction thing always struck me a little weird.

a farmer puts money into fertilizer, money into fuel, money into seeds, never mind the labor. then prays for rain, then prays for sun, then prays for good weather.

tooooo many risks for my taste, but as many of you know, i am a dinosaur.

i just don't get the whole thing of having auctions going all the time.

PYPs are the difficult part of this equation. Otherwise I'm with you.

Think of it exactly like Jeff does! Jeff wants to pay for tokens now, or upon receipt and he doesn’t necessarily have all the money for the order. He also may just be looking to pay people on his staff, having sunk money into inventory he doesn’t have yet, it is similar enough of a case. The inventory is on its way, and will not be available until later, though he has generally a very good idea what the inventory is. To get the money now though, he sells the future inventory, and even provides a benefit. It’s the benefit that I believe there is payment on receipt, it is common B2B sales practice.

Now extend that one degree, Wade knows he will have inventory in Jan (or sooner?) when Jeff ships to him. Wade doesn’t want to spend 8k, nor does he know which 36 tokens to order so others will pay. He lowers his risk, by pre-selling tokens he doesn’t have yet, and looks like a rockstar doing it! Please use the name of an auctioneer you know in place of Wade if you would like, the ones I’ve dealt with are all pretty awesome.

This is the short version of “this is your MBA”, if you would like to learn more, you rock!
