TOPIC: All 2023 Auctions

All 2023 Auctions 1 year 5 months ago #1

I just wanted to take a moment and speak my mind about all the 2023 pre-order auctions. There is going to be a lot of money in a number of auctions and transparency is ideal. Here are a few things I would suggest you do if you are running an auction.
  1. Post a paid invoice (with your personal details redacted) as soon as you place the order. This should not be more than a couple of weeks after the auction closes.
  2. If the host of the auction is also going to be bidding on any items you should disclose your auction moniker
  3. Be sure to clearly disclose what special items are up for bid (e.g. Golden Ticket, Patron Code, Appreciation items.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

Hey Ed,

Didn't take this as a rant in any way, shape, or form. Even in text, came across quite even-keeled.

I can and will certainly do the above.

All special items (including extras!) are visible on my thread and up for bid.
I am not bidding on any of the items.
I will post the paid invoice once I execute payment to TD.

None of this sounds like a rant to me. I think it's actully quite apropriate to ask of this and I will comply.

1. This is not a problem at all and I actually like the idea. Will do it from now on.

2. As a matter or personal principle, I feel it unethical for myself to ever bid on items in my own auction. So I have no issue with this one bit.

3. I always clearly discolse what I am selling and what I am keeping for myself out of an auction. If I ever missed somehting it was in error.

Seems like reasonable requests. Didn't seem ranty to me either.

1. I don't really understand the desire for the invoice to be posted over just announcing the order has been placed. I'm happy to do it for any auctions I run, but could you explain the benefit of it for someone that is maybe missing something obvious? Thank you.

2. Any bidding I do will be clearly marked as the reserve price and new bidders just have to equal that amount so I don't have any advantage of early bidding.

3. Any additions or removals of biddable items will be clearly marked and noted in the listing.

I'll speculate that the intent of posting the invoice is to demonstrate that one isn't hoarding the money, using it for something else, then paying TD later, as it were, effectively using the TD community as an interest free loan until December when preorders close.

Sure. What if someone runs say 4 auctions before the tokens ship and then disappears with the money? This has never happened in the past but came up in conversation. One method to minimize fraud is to know TD has received the funds before the tokens ship.

I appreciate everyone's desire to be transparent and just run a good auction. I just do not want anything bad like that to happen because I feel the forums might get restricted from running auctions.

Behaviors in writing that give pause or folks that ghost when shipments go loss/mis-routed and are questionable whether they will make good.

So for example, someone running a few auctions couldn’t hold the money until they see all the PYP choices are recieved and onyx up some orders if it would work out? Is this what we are assuming folks might do? Cause I’m okay with onyx I’m not expecting, as long as all orders are fulfilled as a consumer I don’t have much issue.

If this is an assumption that someone would take the 8k and head to Vegas to gamble, that is a different assumption. If you don’t trust an auctioneer, any auctioneer, use a store.

To cut off a terrible turn of phrase that promotes distrust, everyone has verification when they get their tokens, so that is not a factor.

Ask them and pay them to use signed delivery if you have the concern. I think it’s $2 addition if using prepaid boxes, though they just changed their pricing I hear.

So the customer is responsible as oppose to the auctioneer being transparent? Not going to deal with poor customer service auctioneers. Have choice for folks that provide good customer service.

I wouldn't bid on an auction that someone who hasn't done a decent amount of business in the community before. That's partially why I bought my 8k when I did and sold mostly everything out of it later. Though, at any point, someone could run off with the 8k after running an auction. This is just a risk we run by doing auctions this way.

That said, I have no problem with transparency especially when it comes to bidding and letting you know what I will be keeping or selling in my auctions. I also am fine showing receipts of when I bought and the order number to the auction winners which will include my name and address (they will see all that on the return label anyway). Furthermore, if there is EVER a question of my sales or auctions, I give full permission for TPTB to cooperate with law enforcement and give all my personal information over in case of an investigation.
