TOPIC: +3 Turkey Leg of Smiting vs +2 Flame blade

+3 Turkey Leg of Smiting vs +2 Flame blade 2 years 1 month ago #1

Which is the better game function weapon? The +3 Turkey Leg or the +2 Flame Blade. The Turkey Leg takes 102 tokens and 5k gp to transmute. The Flame Blade is a $100-ish ultra rare with a better damage wheel. Other than the crit on a 19,,, what makes the Leg better?

2 damage difference. 1 to hit difference.

Which affects your play more? Sometimes, I'd rather have one or the other.

The average damage should be higher on Leg, but, if the expanded crit range doesn't matter, that affects the calculation.

For my play, the Leg is mechanically better. But, neither matters to me as I'd just run a +5 weapon, instead.

Given the recent ruling on the Rogue necklace the +2 Flame Blade is better for Rogues

The crit range and extra +1 to hit are nice. I would take those over the 2 damage loss from the wheel.

If you are including costs though, yeah most Relic weapons aren't worth it compared to their Ultra Rare equivalent. There are usually more effective upgrades you can make to your character in other slots.
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

I think for the long game (investment, readiness for future, etc), the blades are better...

Personally, I'd just vote Flame Sword because it's cooler looking than a Turkey Leg.

There are multiple things to consider.
1) on VTD your crit chance increased from 5% to 10% chance with the Turkey Leg. With the sliders from in-person TD that can vary depending on your skills and the monster layout on the board plus other player's pucks.

2) it's too late to create a +3 holy avenger unless you're planning to buy it and then use the flaming sword to upgrade to the legendary.

3) if you have other tokens that need upgrading it's probably better to get the flaming sword and upgrade multiple pieces rather than just acquiring a single +3 that won't upgrade any further as far as I know.

4) who knows, if you do acquire the +3 Turkey Leg this could possibly be your future legendary if they make one...

after reading this thread, i had 2 thoughts.

1. the embarrassment of the defeated monsters in the afterlife, having to explain to their other dead buddies how they got killed by a turkey leg.

"i'm not joking. they were hitting me all over. it really hurt. quit laughing at me."

2. this goes for the later posts of this thread. in the old game of Everquest, there was a baby cyclops that spawned in south karana. it killed me several times at lower level. as i was passing through the zone at higher level, i see it again. PAYBACK! he died a gruesome death and as i looted the body, i was horrified to learn that the club he used to pummel me to death so many times...was his baby doll. so a legendary suckling pig might not be far fetched.

Original or extra spicy?

I was considering making one yet this year so I could have an off-hand (Monk) +3 weapon to go with my main hand. The damage and the to hit are the …. Big hitters for me, sorry. Off hand with the off hand calculations seem to consider the weapon quality in the offhand in VTD and I’d like to help it hit. It speaks to the 1h weapon deficit of recent years, and now that monks are using them in melee and ranged it compounds the issue. When it was just “more melee” it wasn’t as bad it seemed.

I know if I have tokens I don’t have there are better builds, I just don’t have those things. Maybe I do and the rogue has the Deadshot set instead of my monk (everyone needs a level).
