TOPIC: Restore Power can be used on _____________

Restore Power can be used on _____________ 2 years 1 month ago #1

Mostly curious what character powers are eligible for Cleric restore power. The PHB mentions how it functions for LoH, but it was unclear how it impacted abilities that do not have a check mark (taunt, stunning fist, etc (recognizing SF would also require some extreme luck and may not even be applicable based on it being triggered vs activated)) and if that allows more than one use per combat.

Came up in a conversation and, as there were varying viewpoints, I thought clarity would be good :)

I would say the tests are, is it first not a spell, and second does it have at least one checked off box that can be restored.

IMO powers that dont have boxes are always active even if they can only trigger once per room.

Sartre sits in in a coffee shop and asks for a coffee without cream. The barista apologizes “Sorry, we don't have any cream. Can I offer you a coffee without milk instead?”

From the DMG:

The second use is not marked off of the character card, but the initial use is—if applicable.

The "if applicable" at the end reads to me like having a box to be checked off is not a requirement.

Yeah, I agree with Fiddy... wait... did I write that out loud??? If it is a Special Power with limited uses, then it should work.
The list for non-subclass-character special powers it should work on IMHO:
Druid: Spell Surge,
Dwarf Fighter: Taunt,
Monk: Dazing Fist or Stunning Fist,
Paladin: Detect Evil, Lay on Hands, Remove Disease, Sacrifice!,
Rogue: Flank Attack, Sneak Attack or Improved Sneak Attack,
Barbarian: Rage or Greater Rage,
Bard: Monster Lore Check (DMG says once per combat, so might need a ruling on this one.)

Bard can have up to 4 per combat without the ability of restore power? Bard, the tome, the bards ability to allow a recheck from a spell, I think I am missing one also. Three at least.

Maybe you were thinking of FoP: Raven which lets you succeed at a failed try? But those are all retries/pass of the same Monster Lore Check. They couldn't be used to do a Monster Lore Check on a second monster. I think Restore Power could (IMHO).

Tomb of recall, uncommon slotless. Fop was the one I was forgetting for 3 currently. Lore check is a skill check not a spell which the bard cannot cast a spell to re-try, I get that confused. And the original trial.
