TOPIC: PAX South cancelled

To our PAX South fans,

When the first PAX was held in 2004, we expected at most a hundred locals to show up. Never in our wildest dreams did we anticipate more than 3,000 passionate fans to arrive, or for our one-time event to turn into a series held in five cities around the world. While each of our other events has flourished, some of them drawing hundreds of thousands of attendees from around the world, PAX South hasn't expanded and to some extent has remained the same show that it was when we opened it in 2015.

Faced with that reality, and compounded by the impact of COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to bring PAX South to an end for the foreseeable future.

The heart of PAX South lives on in the incredible memories we made in our Texas community and with the international fans and Enforcers who came out to support the show.

We’re sorry to all our friends who were looking forward to the show's return in 2022 - we join them in that - but we hope to see you again at our other events as PAX returns. You will forever be part of our family and the legacy of PAX. We learned a great deal from you, and future shows will be better for it.

That’s a shame. PAX South was my gateway to TD and this wonderful community. However, due to numerous factors I was uncertain I could even go in 2022 and I’m sure many others were in the same boat.

This is incredibly sad news. My wife and I went to every PAX South and it was where we first played True Dungeon. We got engaged at PAX South. Even though we live in Washington now, we still considered it our home PAX. If it ever returns, we'll be there.

I was actually giving consideration to attending this for this first time. I guess that just means more money available for VTD.

That is sad. I expected it to cancel this year but permanently was surprising.

Hopefully TD returns to Texas in the future.

Sounds about right. My wife won one of the free badges for the following year at Pax South in Jan 2020. Won't ever get to cash in that win unfortunately...

Sad trombone sound - I was looking forward to a TD closer to home - oh well!

Thats a bummer. San Antonio was one of the cites my wife always wanted to visit. I thought I could talk her into PAX South for TD with a city visit, trip on Amtrak, just blocks from the convention center.

To be honest, it is not too surprising that the one down here got cancelled. It didn't get as many vendors and investors due to the time of year it was (January). When it first started I thought it was going to be the Table Top of three state side PAXs until Pax Unplugged occurred.
Sorry, little bitter as I can't afford to go to any of the other locations. Actually been to every one of the Pax South events from 2015-2020 watching all the stuff, meeting people, seeing new games and forms of entertainment I normally can't try. Also, does anyone know if there are True Dungeon events anywhere near Texas, or are all around a 1000+ miles away?

TD was looking to get into Atlanta before the pandemic. They did Dreamhack Atlanta one year, and were planning to do MomoCon before it was canceled. It’s very unlikely they would do Dreamhack again, and I haven’t heard anything about them and MomoCon, but there’s always a possibility?

I just hope TD can find a friendly and accommodating place in the South

Time to start planning for that one.

I'm going to do everything in my power to see if I can get TD to Denver. That should be a more central location the west coast folk can get to easier. Who's with me on this one?
