TOPIC: Widseth's +2 Dancing Sword

Widseth's +2 Dancing Sword 3 years 5 months ago #1

Over the past few years I have been unable to attend TD and Gen Con because of some recurrent health issues. A few years ago after I retired, I sold most of my token collection, but I kept my prized +2 Dancing Sword (I was kind of a song and dance kind of bard). I kept it as a remembrance of the great times my wife and I enjoyed at TD with amazing people we met and terrific volunteers. I also hoped to one day go back to TD, but the doctors tell me within a couple of months I will have to start dialysis, and that will change my remaining years drastically. Most of my time now is spent supporting and teaching and helping grandchildren. I have 27 grandchildren. A couple of them have attended TD with me and several others want to go because they know it meant a lot to me.

I’ve made the difficult decision to go ahead and sell my sword. My sword is soul forged to me, so it is basically a collector’s item because it is one of a kind, but maybe you can convince Jeff to find an arcane way to activate the weapon. I would love to know the legacy of the sword continues to wander the halls of TD.

In the past, I’ve had a couple of offers in the $6,000 range. I would give preference to those who have offered in the past, but if you wish to make an offer, I will entertain offers until the end of the day Friday the 28th of May. I forgot to mention that I will include 23 Ruby gems needed to activate the sword.

It has been a privilege.

Widseth’s +2 Dancing Sword
The rapier will fight by itself as long as Widseth is within 30′. Physical barriers do not sever the mental connection between the rapier and its owner. It can’t chase and fight flying creatures, but it can be extended (within the 30′ range) to fight a foe separated by a chasm or physical barriers. While the sword fights, Widseth may do whatever he likes, including attack with another weapon, cast spells, or perform bardsong. Dennis always makes the attack slide for this weapon, even when performing another action or attacking with another weapon.
After the completion of each adventure, Widseth earns six extra Treasure Chips.

Side Effect: At the beginning of each adventure, Widseth must sacrifice a 100 GP Ruby Gem (must be that exact item) to activate the sword’s magic.
What the infamous bard Widseth is doing with such a beautifully wrought rapier is often the topic of hushed whispers in the taverns of Greyhawk. His inspirational song is considered more valuable to fellow adventurers than his battle prowess. It is said the blade is heavily imbued with powerful magic, but everyone knows such powers always exact an equal, sometimes costly toll.
This Artifact qualifies as a unique item for one of the Mithral Sets.
Mithral Trio
When three items are equipped, all breath weapon damage inflicted upon your character is halved.
(There is no Mithral Quartet bonus, but the benefit from the Mithral Trio bonus would still affect the character.)
Mithral Quintet
When five items are equipped, in addition to the Trio bonus, the character gains Deadbane: any successful melee attack from an undead monster on the character deals 10 points of damage to the undead attacker.
Mithral Sextet
When six items are equipped, in addition to the Trio and Quintet bonuses, the +1 Mithral Long Sword will instantly kill a dragon if the player slides a natural 20 and the 8 or 9 on its damage wheel is closest to the damage dot on the combat board.
 Mithral Boots
 +2 Mithral Bracers*
 +3 Mithral Bracers*
 Mithral Cap
 Mithral Chainmail
 Mithral Gauntlets
 +1 Mithral Long Sword
 TaMor’s +4 Mithral Bracers*
 Widseth’s +2 Dancing Sword
*All these items occupy the wrist slot so only one of them can be worn at a time. E.g., a character can’t wear +2 Mithral Bracers and TaMor’s +4 Mithral Bracers at the same time.

Widseth;

We have missed your presence since the day you had to step away, you are sorely missed.

I am sorry to hear that you'll not be returning to true dungeon and wish you all the love.

If you are ever up to come out to one of the conventions where true dungeon is being held I would love to treat you to a meal and a drink to commiserate on TD adventures past, and I expect that I would not be the only one wanting to join for that meal.

I won't have a hand in the fight over who claims the sword but I do hope it stands in a place of honor for years to come, you deserve it.

If you would be able to participate in a true dungeon virtual event from home for a two hour session please let me know. I would like to buy a run and host you and any of your family who would want to join. It would be a pleasure to have another run with the best bard in the game.

Dennis,

Best wishes and prayers to you as you enter into dialysis. Your goals of teaching and supporting and helping your Grandchildren is admirable. Congratulations on 27 Grandchildren, and I think it's great that some of them have done True Dungeon and others would like to since it meant so much to you.

Since you mention that your Grandchildren would like to do True Dungeon, and since you have been SO generous to the True Dungeon community and the broader world, I wonder if there might not be a way for you to keep the Sword and for your Grandchildren to be able to use it if they ever do a True Dungeon run. I know that might be problematic because it might open the door to other Soulforged tokens to be activated for others, but maybe an exception could be made in this case?

Hopefully if you do sell the sword, whoever buys it would be willing to loan it back to you in case you ever find yourself in a position to do another run, either in person or virtually.

Sincerely,
Mike

I have been debating what to say to your post Dennis. I am at a loss for words. You have been such a wonderful part of TD, and you and Dani are such amazing folks. We wish you and your family the very best, and I hope some VTD is in your future. Take care.

I want to thank everyone for their kind words, thoughts, and prayers. I have received some nice offers. Thank you. I will consider offers until Friday evening and will contact those who submitted offers Saturday morning. I will keep the sale anonymous and allow the buyer to announce the purchase if they choose to do so. The sale would be conditional on my ability to use the sword if at some time I am able to attend TD. All the offers to this point have indicated as much.

I want to thank everyone for the VTD offers. I may take you up on that as my priorities settle down. It is odd to think about priorities when you really realize that the time on this adventure we call earth is temporary. The reason I wrote my books is that I wanted to leave a legacy for my children and grandchildren that through the novels they would know what grandpa thought about and what he believed about some things. I hope you take the time to write down or record your feelings and thoughts about things that you experience . You are all such unique and creative individuals. I wish I knew all of you better, but I am the better for knowing you as little as I do. I would raise my sword (and voice as some of you know) to help any of you slay the monsters in your lives.

Best to all and thank you.

My token has been acquired for a collection. I am grateful for the offers that were made, I will allow the new owner to reveal the whereabouts of the sword if they chose to do so.

Thanks to all.

Dennis, I'm really glad that you found a new home for your Sword, and even more glad that it is available for you to use if/when you decide to do another True Dungeon run. Or maybe multiple runs, virtual or in person. Thanks for the words of wisdom also, they are always appreciated. :)

Dennis,

I, like Jeff, am at a loss for words. I rarely frequent the forums so I am just seeing this conversation. You, Dani, and your family will be in my thoughts as you navigate this next part of your life adventure.

I hope you know how much your support of True Dungeon and friendship have meant to us over the years. You are always such a champion for the people and the things that mean so much to you, and I will never forget that.

Sending love and hugs from Illinois...
