Based on the current version of the app. It looks like DM. Attack rolls and spells have been added but there isn't anything about skill checks.

I guess the DM can handle the spellcasters while the melee people do their rolls/slides. Is the "golem" the DM?

On the patron runs, the rune was displayed on screen, and the DM waited for an answer

The golem was not the DM on the Patron runs, Jeff was. Whether the DM will be the golem on these is definitely a question. Clearly Jeff can't DM for everyone.

Will the app allow me to change damage type of spells with Circlet/Crown of Elemental Mastery? Or is that still just a “tell the DM the spell’s damage type” situation?
I play Wizard.

If I am level 4 and a level 1 player selects the class I want, will the app have a function to Mark this so that I get priority choice on class?
(This is already a level feature I do not like and never use, but want to know if it will be used to steal classes from new players I am introducing to the game)

I believe this "perk" was taken away from level 3+ players.

Confirming
That perk has been eliminated. Player level no longer allows someone to take a character class from someone else.

Based on the volunteer job descriptions on TD Vols, there is a DM and a Golem.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

I am sorry if I keep circling around to questions, but I am still confused. My wife has a smart phone, I do not. We will be playing watching our desktop. I plan on getting a headset that I can use, and either she can share mine, or use her phone. To generate the characters, you need the app. Can she generate both of ours on her phone, or is there some way to generate mine on the desktop? Are the characters emailed to the DM separate from the run, or in coaching?
Combat it seems can be done with dice, which I could do if I can't run the app on the desktop while we play the adventure.
I am sorry if this seems basic, but we are very non-tech savvy, so the language is confusing.
We have met the enemy and they are ours:Two ships, two brigs, one schooner and one sloop

Not official answers just what I know from using the app and or the things that have been by Jeff and Co or on various places on the web.
There is not a desktop version of the app at this time. I doubt there are any plans to have a desktop version because it is less than 2 weeks away and there has been no mention of a desktop. That said there are mobile emulators that you can run on a desktop to have the a mobile device on your desktop.

It is unlikely that rolling on the app on your wife's phone will work for you. Rolling is in each individual character with their stats. Change between characters is possible but it resets the character (max HP and all spells restored) everytime you do. If you are playing non-casters and can remember what you HP everytime between switching characters it is possible to play 2 characters from one device. Definitely not ideal, but possible.

Information about how our characters builds will be provided to the coach has not been released yet that I have seen. Nor has it been provided how the virtual party card moves from room to room (or if we have 1 dm for the entire adventure). I figure they have that figured out though so they will let us know if we need to do anything. Considering we haven't yet got to the point of 'locking' in characters I am not worried about that yet.

Thank you so much for your reply. I can track mine manually if I may. My wife would definitely need the app tho.
I will not fret and just see how it goes. I am quite pumped. Imagine if this would be an annual virtual event between physical ones. Way cool.

BTW, by mobile emulator, is that something I would load on my Mac to make it run the Mac apps?
If so, where does one find those?

I don't know the names of any emulators for mac (I am sure they exist I just don't know them). For windows there is something called Bluestack that a lot of mobile gamers user (it might be available for mac as well I don't know). Nox Player is another I have used in the past. A quick google search should answer for you about mobile emulators for Mac. Though someone on the forum might have experience with a few to provide more of a review.
