Every year at this time I get a little misty eyed as I think of those select individuals who have given everything for us to be able to play games, discuss, argue, plan, and enjoy life. Every year I remember Schuyler Patch, Jeff and Lori's nephew, who paid the ultimate price for me in Afghanistan to be able to enjoy the life I have. I remember my father who fought in Viet Nam, friends and a teacher who died in Viet Nam, a son who, as a federal agent, contends with drug and human traffickers on our borders, and another son who played TD with me at GenCon and then was deployed to Afghanistan and is now serving in Kosovo, leaving his wife and 7 children home to carry on under difficult circumstances for a year.

I love and honor these men and women and their families who have given so much.

I guess missing a few conventions isn't quite the trial that we sometimes make it out to be. Thank you Jeff and Lori for the sacrifice your family has made for me.
