TOPIC: Goblet of healing

Goblet of healing 5 years 10 months ago #1

Can someone else drink from your GOH? And does a single standard action limited to 2 flasks of Faerie water? Or can I drink as many as I want in a single standard action? Thanks!

TDB doesn't address this question.

We share consumables like potions and scrolls all the time. But the Goblet isn’t a consumable, it’s equipped, and you can’t share equipped items. But the Goblet is holding a potion, so I don’t know. Maybe you both need to spend a Standard Action - one to pour and one to drink.

The first paragraph in the link you posted answers your second question. Spoiler alert: no. :)

This is not an official answer, but my confidence is rather high.

Being that we allow characters to share healing items ("Oh crap, the wizard died. I have a Potion Death's Door, I'll pour it down their throat." or "Hey paladin, thanks for taking all those hits for me. Drink this and you'll feel better."), it seems reasonable to me that a Goblet of Healing could be shared as well.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

Thanks gentlemen. Perhaps I'd plan to use this more outside of combat for myself and save my other healing potions for during combat and healing others.

Where does it say that the Goblet of Healing is officially "equipped"? Although a lot of character generators treat it as being equipped, how do we determine which "slotless" tokens are officially "equipped?"

How about the Horn of Blasting? Gear? Ammo?

I think this was all hashed out 2-3 years ago - there is a forum thread that if memory serves Druegar contributed to.

The question arose in the context of things like Carter's Tome of Insight, or other slotless items, and whether you could carry multiples through to get multiple effects.

I think the resolution was basically:

slotless + non-consumable == equipped (and therefore you can only have 1, by meta rule that you can't double equip the same item).

slotless + consumable == not equipped

And then there was some exception for items like GP or gear where maybe you could have multiples but they weren't consumable.

I requested that we denote which was which in TDb. Others held that this was a stupid idea, and chastised me for trying to waste Druegars time. The end.

Edit: I actually found the thread, and I don't think things were as settled there as I would have liked:

Also, the ruling inference there was from the old Player's Handbook, so who knows...

PHB (and maybe elsewhere) states that tokens are either consumable or equipped, and runestones are both.

So, to answer the last question, “equipped, equipped, consumable,” per PHB.

But maybe we need a rule that says some subset of slotless items, let’s call them “gear,” are shareable. Then we can call the Goblet “gear,” and say the Death Die isn’t.

Honestly I would just do this simple test. Does it feel like you breaking the spirit of the game? if yes, dont do it. If no have fun.

By this standard, the Goblet of healing would be sharable, just like a healing scroll or potion is sharable IMHO.
