2-hour Event Ticket Limit Set at 12 Tickets 2 years 7 months ago #1

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PATRON & GENERAL BADGEHOLDERS

1) Limits on Tickets for Patrons and General Public: Due to the projected demand for event tickets for the two-hour “Beneath Castle Altus” dungeon adventure we are limiting the number of event tickets anyone can buy to 10 12 “Beneath Castle Altus” tickets. We don’t have a mechanism to prevent this, but we will be notified if this occurs. That player will then be contacted and asked to refund the number of “Beneath Castle Altus” tickets to get them back down to only 12 event tickets for that specific event.

CLARIFICATION: This 12 ticket limit for “Beneath Castle Altus” is NOT restricted to one slot of tickets. Your 12 tickets could be spread out among 3-4 different times if you wish. Just make sure the total does not exceed 12 tickets for “Beneath Castle Altus”. We also ask that Patron and other players don’t grab an inordinate amount of tickets for other events. The success of this event (and the chance of another one in 2017) will depend on enough tickets to be available for the 100+ badges sold so far. This is a great chance for True Dungeon to get some locale exposure which will help recruit desperately needed local volunteers. Getting more local volunteers will be a huge boon to the quality of the TD event for all. Thank you for your understanding.

This 12 “Beneath Castle Altus” ticket limit MAY be lifted at a later date if event ticket sales allow it. We will announce this a few days in advance to give everyone a chance to jump on the website at that time.

Thank you all so much for your understanding, and I apologize for not realizing sooner that these steps were needed. The number of badges sold has surprised us, and we were late on understanding how that could be an issue. Additionally, more steps are being taken to allow a better distribution of tickets. See below.

2) No Ghost Players: Due to the scarcity of tickets, all tickets used for “Beneath Castle Altus” must SHOULD have a real human player go along on the adventure (but it is not mandated). If you have some unused tickets as your event start time approaches, please refund them so other players can play. No “ghost” runs will be allowed. If you really want to run with a smaller number of players than 10, then ghost “players” will not receive any treasure coins at the end of the adventure.

3) Treasure Enhancing Tokens: Due to lack of set rules for their use (and gamers being mini-maxers like me), these tokens were somewhat abused at Gen Con. It is even more tempting at TDC due to the cheaper adventure ticket price. At TDC, all Treasure Enhancing tokens must be shown to the Coach for verification, carried throughout the adventure, and then presented inside the Epilogue Room to verify each player has these tokens with them.
.
TDC should be a really fun time – both for veteran players and for a great number of new players. Let’s try to insure that enough event tickets will be around so more folks can discover the fun of True Dungeon.

====

I am sending this announcement to all folks who have purchased badges on Wednesday morning.

NOTE: Please let me apologize again for messing up a lot of carefully laid plans. I was very un-smart not to realize that the better than expected badge sales meant that we would have a problem with allowing Patrons and others to grab a bunch of tickets. Thank you for any understanding you can throw my way...

Jeff, great changes, thanks! That should help assure everyone that wants a ticket can get one. I hope that you implement #2 and #3 at GENCON, and possibly the other venues as well (#1 is probably impossible to track or enforce at GENCON). :)

I'm generally good with all this. However I have one concern. I and some others intend to buy out a slot of 10 tickets for our group. This could disadvantage us versus those just buying for themselves who could conceivably buy 10 tickets in 10 different runs.

Also, I have purchased two badges on my account, one for me and one for my son. Is the restriction per acoount or per number of badges purchased? I'd it is the former, I'll need to have him set up his own account, get a badge on that account and return the one I bought for him on my account.

(Yes, I know that the multiple badge on one account thing could be abused to hell and gone! Given our munchkiny min maxing tendencies)

I'm kind of surprised that the 110 badges currently sold exceeds expectations. Of course there is still time for more to buy.

I definitely agree with #3 being enforced everywhere.

I definitely see reasons to state #2 for TDC with the limited number of runs and interest in them.
I would be rather upset by having no ghosts enforced at GC or GHC given that I, like many others, host specific runs with unique rules or with socially anxious people who only attend TD with me because I control the group dynamic, having either of those affected at a main convention would be a very hard pill to swallow and likely cost my group at least 2 constant players from anxiety.

#1 is frustrating to have set up the day before tickets go on sale when we've spent multiple days organizing group runs that have already had money change hands. Given that I totally understand the reason for the change but it does still frustrate for the few people who had already committed to hosting a run and are now left with the option of canceling the run or having to beg tickets from other buyers.

Maybe (hopefully) next year will be different, but this past year at GHC there were long stretches of time on Friday afternoon with empty runs. There would have been more empty runs but for some people who snapped up tickets at the last minute for ghost runs.

Jeff, I can see why you need to put an initial limit in place. Any chance of bumping it to say 12? That allows someone coordinating a full run to still grab a couple one-offs as well.

I generally agree and like everything Jeff posted, however I agree that a limit of 11 or 12 would be MUCH better.

I really hope #2 is not enforced at Gen Con or GHC. For reasons Arcanist pointed out. If you wanted to remove TE and Synergy tokens from ghost okay (not something many would like myself included). However being able to control the group is VERY important for many. A single random person can not only change the dynamics of a group but also change the difficulty to normal when everyone else wants to play nightmare or Hardcore.

If #1 was enforced at Gen Con it would actually likely end my True Dungeon playing days as it would be impossible for me to get the a full set of each of the dungeons for my group.

I have no issues with #3 that's fine.
I do have issues with #1 and #2

For this con #1 is fine, totally get that, its annoying because I buy the runs for my group.

#2 get's me riled up though. I want to run nightmare and its my only way to do it guaranteed. Also I like knowing who I'm running with for lots of reasons. I like knowing I'm going to get to play the class I want to play.

Your game your rules I'll play buy them but I can be annoyed and voice my concern.

I like the idea of the limit, and think that 11 or 12 would be easier than 10, for the reasons previously stated.

My concern is the timing. MANY people (myself included) have mentioned on here several times over the last few weeks that there should be a limit on the number of slots that can be bought by patrons, and to put one in place at the 11th hour is truly frustrating.

If I were someone who just bought a patron code for the prices they were going for here, I would likely be very upset.

Of course the event is Jeff's, and he is free to change the rules however he sees fit to benefit the long term health of the game. I think that a limit will certainly help that.

I don't think a limit at GC would be good for the game.

I believe the TE token rules are excellent, and should absolutely continue. If there is a way to make sure they are able to continue at GC, even if it means a 2nd epilogue room, one to collect everything else and one to verify TE tokens, I would be all for that too.

The no ghost rule makes sense here, but I hope it doesn't continue at GC or GHC, for many reasons.

Thanks for all the feedback. It is appreciated. I also appreciate your patience with this last minute addition. I know it is going to be a pain for some to change plans at the last second. I realize that some Patrons might be quite miffed at these last minute changes, but I must ask them to understand I am doing this so ALL Patrons and some general admission players will be able to get tickets. Without these rules in place, it is very probable that some Patrons would not get any tickets -- let alone general admission folks. From comments and questions I recently received, I think several people who bought Patron codes were planning on buying 5-6 complete slots. With around 60 total slots, it is plain to see that we may have had a bad situation on our hands.

Let's see how this goes, and if there are enough tickets to go around, we will open up the maximum at a later date.

I will change the maximum number of tickets from 10 to 12.

I have no control over how many tickets folks can buy at Gamehole Con or Gen Con, so we won't be able to take many of these steps there. We can have that discussion this summer after TDC is over.

Thanks for listening to our feedback Jeff!

Both listening to those who suggested the limit, as well as those of us who requested it be bumped.
