TOPIC: Looking for possible Hardcore group and advice

Looking for possible Hardcore group and advice 6 years 11 months ago #1

I've been a lone player since I started in 2013 and have always just bought a single ticket where available. I've had mixed luck with random groups ranging from great teamwork and fun, to having a bag of tokens tossed at me and being told "You're the bard. Just sing." Since I'm a lone player I usually expect to play the "10th character" and fill whatever role is needed. As such, I've played monk, barbarian, cleric (x2), rogue, ranger (x2), and the aforementioned bard. I haven't focused on gearing a particular class because I never know what I'll end up with.

I'm looking to graduate from random groups that may or may not be fun, and join a fun possibly Hardcore group. Like I said above, I've always bought my tickets through Gen Con so I'm a little nervous about leaving them off of my Wish List and hoping to find them through these forums.

Any advice or directions to a good group that will take in a TD orphan that enjoys good teamwork are greatly appreciated. My current schedule is open for runs anytime Friday morning and Saturday morning/afternoon.

Welcome to the forums Phaelix!

It sounds like you're posting at a really good time: There's lots of groups just starting to come together, and making plans for ticket purchases.

While it can be a bit nerve wracking to leave TD tickets off your Wishlist, you'll do fine, especially if you are flexible. If things fall through on the forums, and you're only looking for a single ticket, you've still got very good odds of finding something through the GenCon site for several weeks after the supposed "sell out" on Event Registration day. (There's always people returning tickets here & there - and quite a few people will post here on the forums before they release tickets, so others can scoop them up)

As for as getting into a HardCore group goes, you can either respond on some of the current posts, or wait until after Event registration and look for thread titles like, "HardCore tix available Thurs 8pm" or "Join our group! 3 slots available - experienced players only"

While I can't guarantee that you'll find a perfect group, odds are a lot better than with PUGs. And if you try running with 2 or 3 different groups (which may or may not work out with your budget, but if it does...) then you can feel them out, and see whether you want to run together again next year.

Many, many adventuring parties started out by meeting on the forums, and after doing a run in person, deciding they wanted to run together again in future years.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I'll leave it off the wish list for now and stalk the forums in the coming days.

I am aiming for a Hardcore run for my Son's group on Thursday mid morning. He may have as many as 9 in his group. Or he may have less.

As Raven said, keep checking the forums.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir
