True Grind 2017 Gencon - Variable Token Effects 6 years 8 months ago #1

Hello all!

Sorry for the delayed post. Was busy finalizing things. Here are the variable token effects for this year's True Grind at GenCon:

Amulet of Wonder - The Rule-of-Three: For every 3 pieces of a set you have equipped, you can choose one of the following bonuses (you may choose the same bonus multiple times):

(Offensive Options)

+3 to hit for one attack type (melee or ranged)
+3 to damage for one attack type (melee, ranged, or spells)
+3 to damage for one item type (scrolls or wands)

If the attack has multiple targets, then the extra damage uses the "damage pool" rules.

(Defensive Options)

+3 to AC
+3 to saves
+3 to all healing spells you cast (uses the "healing pool" rules in the case of multiple targets)

If you have the Mithral 3-piece, 4-piece, or 5-piece set, you get to select a bonus once. If you have the Mithral 6-piece, then you get to select the bonus twice.

Wearing multiple 3-pieces of different sets will net you multiple bonuses.

Eldritch Runestone - The Unity of Rings: Once this adventure, you may either recast one of your spells or reuse one of your class abilities/powers

UR Special - The Center of All: You may turn in a UR Special at any time during the adventure for any one of the three possible effects:

- All other players (but not you) reslide their combat sliders
- After the monsters' turn, negate all of the damage and other effects they inflicted on all other players (but not you)
- All other living players (but not you) are restored to max HP

Just to be sure; if you arent equipping 3 pieces of the same set, then AoW does nothing, correct?

So, 2 eldritch, 1 mithral, 2 redoubt, 1 viper strike, 2 charming, and 1 might = no AoW bonus?

That is correct. You don't have 3 pieces of any set, so you don't gain any bonus. (This is to encourage people to use sets!).

In theory you could. But practically speaking, the Amulet of Wonder conflicts with the Amulet of the Wind. Technically, Lazlo could do this due to his artifact's effect of granting an additional slot. Also, if someone wanted to use a Wish Ring for an extra neck slot, this would allow them to combine the Wind Set with the Rule-of-Three from the AoW.

Instead of the effects in the normal dungeon runs. Grind typically has their own effects for these tokens.

Kent's group can use the Wind set too :)

The AoW is cool. Just was working on my grind barbarian yesterday. 3 each Charming, Eldritch, Redoubt is possible. Seems worth it. Is four 3's possible, barring artifacts/wishes? I don't have time to play with builds today.
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

You can do at least 5:
Charming
Defender/Redoubt/Templar...
Dragonhide
Eldritch
Mithral

Yes, every 3-or-more-piece set counts as one set, so you could theoretically get 5 bonuses (by my estimation). And yes the Eldritch set counts.

You could add might....If you just want add a set. Girdle, orb and scepter in melee and have your redoubt shield in range.
Or mithral, with the sword bracers and gauntlets.
Or viper with shirt, fang (or 2 if one is at least a relic) and belt.
Or celestial with sword bracers and girdle
Maybe others as well.
