TOPIC: Is acquiring 4 tickets for Beginners hopeless?

Is acquiring 4 tickets for Beginners hopeless? 6 years 10 months ago #1

My family is going to be together and thought it would be great to be able to experience TD. I don't know if there are any mostly beginner runs since most on here seem to want Nightmare. We were hoping for a puzzle adventure and any time would work for 3 out of 4 of us, so even 3 tickets would be acceptable... I'll be busy Friday evening.
Any suggestions on what to do other than try to get in next year?

This post is a good start.

But if all else fails, note that TD will be at Origins in June and Game Hole Con in November.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Agreed, Gamehole Con is a good opportunity to play pretty much the same adventures as they have at GenCon with presumably easier ability to get tickets.

Most people on the forums play Nightmare, but in the real world the vast majority of groups run on normal difficulty. The problem is finding them, since they aren't on the forums.

I host a newbie run every year but this year it is already full. If you want to try again at the next GenCon, your best bet is to put a bunch of possible slots on your wishlist and then submit right when events open up. That's what we all do. You also could consider buying all 10 tickets for a run and then finding others here or on places like Facebook to fill in the slots. This allows you to know who you are playing with before you get there.

Keep your eyes peeled around here, you might have to wait a few days/weeks but I would be surprised if there weren't at least a few people looking to fill spaces.

I wouldn't say it is hopeless. I would keep checking the Gen Con website. People are always changing stuff. Also I would keep checking the forums because people always have drop out and such.

I can say I have tickets that I don't have bodies for all of them yet. I give my friends a bit of time confirming they can make any give run after that I start filling in with other folks. This is usually in July. I have had anywhere from 6 extra tickets to just one it just depends.

Doesn't help that some of us jockey around to do all 4 variants which makes getting a tuned schedule take some time. I'm in the same boat as i'm waiting for yes/no from others. Once i have open slots 1 and others will generally post them here and offer them up. The benefit this way is you go into a run knowning who else is on the run and what class/difficulty it is to be.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I know you want several spots but I have a single ticket for Friday Dancing among the Stones at 12:51. You can always show up with Generics and see if someone has no showed.

I appreciate everyone's responses. I figured that since I botched getting tickets early that there was a chance to kind of wait and see if any open up. Hope never hurts. Thanks for all the advice. :)
