jedibcg wrote: DM of Beholder Combat on Sunday in room 2 with the Succubus was very good, imo. I don't remember if I knew who it was at the time or not, but I have forgotten now.

I was very tired by Sunday and got on a friends run because he was short people. I hung back on all the combats not sliding or casting, because I knew they didn't really need me. I was able to watch this dm and he did an excellent job of moving combat all at a quick pace but also entertaining the group with his exposition on the damage done or not done. It was great to see everyone standing around listening to him as he gave a solid description of the death of the succubus.

Thx Jedi :)

First, a shout out to Don, who is always a great coach in the Training room.

I can't think of any GM that did poorly, and I could say that about one or two past years. Some were better than others, of course, but I could say at least one positive to everyone involved that I encountered.

That said, the drow GMs for Deeperdark deserve commendation. Especially on puzzle-side where they had more rooms in which to be fully responsible. The best I encountered was during the Fri 3:25pm run; she engaged the players/characters in snark and conversation, knew her rooms well, and was a lot of fun! (This is "Walgreen's" if you see my post)

Joshua: That sounds like Andrew, who made the Rock-maninoff pun on one of our runs.

Thanks for the shoutout. That was indeed me, although I can't take full credit for the name.

I got to add to my description on Sunday, when the table started scraping really badly on the floor... Rock-maninoff was singing one of his compositions for the party!

While all DMs which I, Mongo, Lordon the Ranger and the Late Sherriffus Bartus had this year were Great, the Team of Raven, Kirk and finally Eric at the After hours Epic Grind were fantastic. The Great author H. P. Lovecraft would be proud of their use of his "children". Without spoilers from this Run [which will be written about] Kirk's face after finding Psionics are good against 560 points of falling damage was priceless

Could someone tell me what a "Web site URL" is. Is it a special form of scroll?

Randy. wrote: My group was very impressed by 3 of our combat DMs over this Con. First, Incognito is a very good DM who really knows his module backwards and forwards.

The other two, I unfortunately do not know the names of (though I *think* they're on the forums...maybe). One of them was running the Beholder room in BHM puzzle on Saturday morning. He explained and DMed a very complex fight with no troubles at all. He made it very easy to understand what was going on, without wasting all of the time we had to defeat the Beholder.

The other was running the Fallen angel room in BHM combat on Saturday afternoon/evening. Lots of funny little quips, especially the mock disgust when he rolled a crit against our Monk (who then informed the DM that his Cloak of Shadowskin saved him).

I will claim the last spot there, and do appreciate the shoutout! It's been so fun running as a combat DM, even with a couple mishaps. Seeing all the various tokens players employ allows me a better knowledge of the game (that monk got lucky! ). I had a blast working with the NPCs and parties that came through, including yours, and everyone was wonderful!

The Beholder room was a crazy room for a DM. What really helped me as a DM in the Beholder room is that I was honest with the players and let them know that I needed some help as the effects hit them. They also kept track of rounds. They were honest about and conditions that affected them and it went rather smoothly. It also helped up to get 4-6 rounds of combat each time.

Thank you players for being patient in that room.

I did feel bad about eating three players outright... especially for the paladin that failed his save as I attacked the wizard and he was the one guarding him. :pinch:

I did two runs. Our puzzle Into the Deeperdark run on Thursday at 3:13 had an excellent drow (named Katie I believe?). She did a great job with her snarkiness and contempt for the party.

Our DMs as a whole for this run were good as I don't remember any issues. While not specific to this topic, I do want to add that when an NPC acts as "DM" for a couple of rooms, they should have some cleric beads on them. We weren't able to use spells for healing at full effect after messing up the puzzles.

On Saturday we did the puzzle Behold Her Majesty at 4:15. I remember that both our coach and training room heads were excellent here. Also, our DM at the end handled the beholder very quickly, so we had enough time to take him down. Really appreciated.

Overall, great DMs the whole way through!

And Druid leaves (that's a noun, not a verb).

You could put them in the rogue box to avoid putting pockets in the costumes.

Or, just tell the NPC DMs to assume that players pass their skill checks.

But yeah, our DMs were great.

NPC DMs were told by Thursday night that if players wanted to cast a healing spell that it would be an automatic success.
