TOPIC: Best Dm's you had

Best Dm's you had 7 years 7 months ago #1

OK guys time for a little ego stroking for those of us who help run things. lets hear a big shout out to those who made this year possible. those who made your experience memorable. specifically the dm who ran room 4 beholder (puzzle) thurs night, Friday night (
room 4 combat), Saturday morning (room 4 puzzle), or room 5 (puzzle) Sun. that guy was the best. LOL

Lets keep this positive, i know i love what i do, and i also know that Almost all these guys do everything they can to make this the best experience for the players.

If you can remember names that is great, but time, room, dungeon, and puzzle or combat would help for those us us who worked to make things out if you can't remember names.

P.S. thanks to all the players, and my fellow DM's, NPC's, Blue hands, and everyone else who made for such a great year.

I have to give mad props to the Succubus in BHM combat Friday night. Last run of the night and her banter was still top notch. Real highlight for me :) Seriously vol coordinators invite that girl back if she ever wants to NPC again.

Had a great time with Sharkley as our NPC drow traitor on Deeperdark Combat on Saturday AM at 9:48. Until he tricked me into touching a duck!! Although that led into "RELEASE THE QWACKEN!" in the next room - great fun!

Loved having an NPC with us like that, and as usual, great costuming!

We faced four Succubi through the weekend, and they were all great! The Drow ranged from good to outstanding. The fallen celestials were outstanding at all times.

There was a lot more consistency this year; we had none of the chaotic experiences we had last year. There was the usual slow combat DM, probably fatigue. That was more than balanced by energetic, exciting folks who helped maintain the fun.

Then there was the SOB who tried to browbeat me for not informing him I was wearing a Cloak of Blending. Read the tokendb; talked to several experienced players. No where did I find any requirement to inform the DM upon entering the room. Not to mention the awful customer service experience and 'buzzkill' that threw on the party. We rose above it. Oh well, I hope he felt better after getting his frustration out. Glad I could perform that service for you.... again....
You still got hit points! Get back in there and fight!!

Agree completely... Sharkley made it a lot of fun. I was sad to have to kill him with a little spider on spider violence.

I know this was for DMS, but each of the Succubus we dealt with were great as well... as we're the DMs for this room.

Overall I loved all of my runs and the dungeons this year. For the most part the DMs were wonderful.

There are still some DMs who think their job is to kill players.

Sadly way too many.

I was very happy with the Sunday Afternoon Drow in IDD Combat, who did actively engage the party to puzzle solve and tried to nudge us along when we got stuck. Much nicer than the 10 minutes of staring at the puzzle going "WTF, is this?" then taking the push damage.

Also whoever was controlling the rock monster puppet who danced along to our Bard's maraca beat...brilliant!

I did 5 runs total plus a grind. I can honestly say that this was the best year I have ever experienced for DM's. I would easily put over half in the exceptional category and the rest somewhere between good and darn good. Only had one bad DM. Not the worst I have ever experienced, but he was a jack-ass.

Honestly it would be hard to pick a favorite. But I think I am going to give a shout out to the NPC's. Especially our Drow in Deeperdark Combat. She was with us for both runs we did and she was fantastic. Not only was she in character but her interactions were fun. She appeared to be having as much fun as we were. Which can be tough to do late in the con. The second group gave her a well deserved round of applause. After we killed her of course.

So to her and all our other NPC's, DM's and coaches I give my heartfelt thanks!

DM of Beholder Combat on Sunday in room 2 with the Succubus was very good, imo. I don't remember if I knew who it was at the time or not, but I have forgotten now.

I was very tired by Sunday and got on a friends run because he was short people. I hung back on all the combats not sliding or casting, because I knew they didn't really need me. I was able to watch this dm and he did an excellent job of moving combat all at a quick pace but also entertaining the group with his exposition on the damage done or not done. It was great to see everyone standing around listening to him as he gave a solid description of the death of the succubus.

My group was very impressed by 3 of our combat DMs over this Con. First, Incognito is a very good DM who really knows his module backwards and forwards.

The other two, I unfortunately do not know the names of (though I *think* they're on the forums...maybe). One of them was running the Beholder room in BHM puzzle on Saturday morning. He explained and DMed a very complex fight with no troubles at all. He made it very easy to understand what was going on, without wasting all of the time we had to defeat the Beholder.

The other was running the Fallen angel room in BHM combat on Saturday afternoon/evening. Lots of funny little quips, especially the mock disgust when he rolled a crit against our Monk (who then informed the DM that his Cloak of Shadowskin saved him).

The DM in the stone elemental room who referred to it as Rock-maninov. Not only was he quick, enthusiastic, and descriptive, I love me a good pun. Had him twice. I'd say he was - solid.

Stoner in the Lava Beast room was great as always.

Honestly all of my DM's were good this year, even the one that I got into the Flanking argument with (issue in Rogue forum).

Great job all around!
