TOPIC: New Prototype Magnetic Slider

Ok so wide spread use of the new sliders.
Here's what I and my group heard/experienced:

1. Slower sliding - I think this is the felt. Its super new and doesn't slide quite the same. Yes it could be the fog too, but I think its largely the felt.

2. "top heavy" - with higher felt friction and the magnet the pucks might actually be more top heavy, I saw a few rolls and odd behavior. I think this is largely correlated to point #1.

3. Bump shot change - folks dislike change lol. The pucks are rubberized and so they bump into either other differently than the old. I think with practice folks will adapt and this will be a non-issue.

4. Push down to get out - Might need the training room folks to point out that you need to push down an edge of the token to get it out. People were figuring it out eventually but could save some frustration and provide better customer service.

5. Magnet! - holds token very securely which is super nice. Doesn't quite have enough hold to hold ammo token on top of ranged token. LOL yeah i tried to see if my sling bullet would stay on top of my sling. That would have been a neat bonus effect.

6. Colored rings - way cool to have teams by colored rings.

7. Sky's the limit - with a magnet inside the puck Jeff can now do some crazy combat boards with magnets underneath the boards.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

Thanks for making the slider pucks usable at TDC. Overall, I felt they were solid, just the magnet inside perhaps was a bit too strong, maybe a decrease in the pull force by 25 - 40 percent would be better.

My other comment above ties in with this that when i held the pucks for monk in a stack, they were harder to slide consecutively as the first puck was being pulled back by the magnetic force of the second puck still in hand. I understand that not all monks slide stacking both pucks in one hand, but just my two cents.

Kakitahan, thanks for the feedback. To give a little more perspective on how the strength was determined. Magnets were inserted and then a token. The slider was then dropped from a 5' height to see if the token would stay attached. Then the token was slid off a standard conference table to again test adherence. If I didn't get at least 80% retention on 20 attempts then I increased the magnet. Ultimately that was the weakest magnet I could use provide the "safest" retention rate. We even softened up the edges slightly to absorb some of the impact when the slider fell.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can go any weaker and meet the one of the key attribute of the slider (token retention). I am sorry this impacts stacking of the sliders.

Ed

duly noted. i'll have to either bear with it or use a different method.

good thoughts though for puck design; overall if i had to choose either a minor inconvenience versus losing a valuable token, i would lean towards not losing the token.

thanks!

Because Druegar preferences this in a completely different post, I am necroing this to say I still think Cleric should be sun. I have been a cleric with the teal color and my slides have been extra terrible. Surely Pelor is punishing me for straying from his path. :D

Jedibcg, it's patently obvious that you're being punished for having fought--and now continuing to fight--against what is good, holy, and natural.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

If I write something in teal, it should not be taken seriously.

So you are saying Pelor is not good, holy and natural?

Editing my quote does work well unless you edit my original post too.
