TOPIC: Does anybody else want to host a "newbie" run?

Does anybody else want to host a "newbie" run? 7 years 11 months ago #1

So one of the full runs I bought out I decided to make a newbie run where it is me plus nine people who haven't played TD before. I posted on Reddit and Facebook and my full run is already filled up and I've easily turned away another 10-20 interested potential players.

I wanted to find out if anybody else had a full run that they'd like to offer up for this purpose? If so I can try to hook you up with these potential newbies.

My goal is to provide a less intimidating experience for newbies -- they won't be overwhelmed by a veteran who throws tokens at them or solves puzzles for them, nor will they be in this without any sort of guidance. We'll pick our classes beforehand. Then for each player they will choose between 1) building a character on the spot with the free 10-pack (and I'll have a few small backup tokens just in case), or 2) I provide a Normal-level build for them, and 3) they purchase and do their build beforehand with any help they want from me.

Additionally I've offered to subsidize the runs; I pay $28 and I get the +13 treasure draws from my Charm of Avarice I'll lend them. They still get what they would have got on their own. Or if they pay the full $56 then they get all 16 treasure draws.

Just throwing it out there.

I mentioned this before. I did something similar a few years ago. I provided the run for free but kept all the tokens. I got lots of people interested. Unfortunately as the price goes up and the popularity among those I know goes up it I not able to sponsor full runs like this. That said I often still invite people I meet at the con to join in a free run when we have an open spot.

Chip,

Let me know the details of your run and if you really want to do it. If so should I send them your email address to contact you?

I bought out a run for some friends and family members, most of which have never played before. I currently have 9 in the party with one spot left. If anyone knows someone who has never played but wants to give it a go I'd be willing to let the person join the run for free. Believe it's Saturday 6:30ish. Just PM me.

I also have one which I have not opened up yet, except for friends. I am taking 2 friends through who have not played before, and we will do Normal, so potentially the other 7 tickets are also available for this purpose. It is Majesty Puzzle Thu 5:03pm. Give me a day or two though and I'll contact you when I am ready for you to send people my way!
Classes Played: Barbarian (65 times), Monk (56), Ranger (33), Rogue (25), Cleric (21), Fighter (13), Druid (12), Paladin (11), Dwarf Fighter (10), Bard (7), Elf Wizard (2), Wizard (2)

Please let me know if this happens.
My wife and I are interested.
We don't need anyone to pay for the run, though. We just need a spot and people who don't care that we don't have tokens.

Well if there are any newbies still out there looking for a run (I am going to post this on the Gen Con forums as well), I have a 4 tickets to a Behold Her Majesty (Puzzle) Thursday 12:51PM run. This will not be strictly a newbie run as the other 6 tickets are held by veteran players, not necessarily skilled players but they all have a fair number of years of TD under their belts.
These are gone.

I have 1 or 2 tickets for Into the DeeperDark (Combat) Thursday 6:48PM.
These are gone as well.

Six new people will get to play True Dungeon.
