This is heavily debated. There are studies that show it is more healthy to eat one large meal/eat only during a 2-4 hour stretch and fast the rest of the day.
Eating lots of snacks will help keep your blood sugar (and thus insulin) level, but that can result in insulin resistance.

...but really, everyone is different. Just avoid the processed foods as much as possible and eat quality foods (especially vegetables and meat).

I read an article a few years ago (so it's probably outdated) that discusses eating one meal a day causes the body to covert that meal into fat because it knows it won't eat again for 24 hours.

You will be less tired, eat less food, eat less often, and lose a bunch of weight. Keeping your blood sugar constant is actually a bad idea for most people, especially those who already struggle with weight.

And stay away from granola bars, they are typically full of sugar. With all of that being said I do think it would be cutting it close to go to the food trucks on a 24min break since the lines can be crazy. Personally I bring a selection of healthy snacks (nuts, cheese) and protein bars to eat as necessary during my breaks.

Each of the past few years I have always brought something different to snack on throughout my DM shifts: kale chips, turkey jerky, turkey mini meat sticks, Rice Krispie treats, licorice, apples, and grapes. The one constant is 3-4 bottles of water. And, after the first year of volunteering, quit a few lozenge-type candies. As was already said, I can't stress how bad your voice will be into the 3rd or 4th day if you don't take care of it.

Do you bring your own snacks from home or is there a market nearby?

Full time vol only have room Thursday-Saturday that means I have to find my own place for badge pickup day on Wednesday and Sunday if I spend an extra night?

I drive to GenCon every year. It's a 10-11 hour drive straight through. Usually I crash with direct family in Ohio, though, while driving there. Because I'm driving I load my ride with bottled waters and all kinds of snacks and foods for myself and Team Yeti.

GenCon is in the middle of downtown Indy. I have never found little markets, but there is a Mall and a CVS. There are also enough restaurants in the surrounding walkable area that even the most picky of palates can find food for themselves.

Most people that live downtown actually drive to the south side for a grocery store. The nearest one would be a Marsh at Michigan and Capitol. Definitely walkable to get to or you can use the Indy Bike Share if you do not need to get much.

I have no desire to pack a bunch of groceries for a long trip (e.g., chips + airline = potato powder), so I always make a run to the nearby Marsh Supermarket . This particular store is very new, nicely laid out, and has some cool amenities. You can walk to it, but if you're going to buy a bunch of supplies, rather than lug all those bags back to your hotel, just use a cab or your favorite ride-sharing service. It's close enough to the ICC that paying for the ride is pretty cheap. If you can find a friend or two to share the ride, "splurging" for it becomes a no-brainer.

Open 6am - 2am Mon-Fri; 7am - 2am Sat & Sun

There is another Marsh in Indy (320 North New Jersey Street), but it's farther away from the ICC and significantly smaller and older.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

As I travel from home to the ICC each day, I have offered to make pit stops at he market on the way there. Tips in tokens always appreciated, lol.

I pretty much live on GORP during Gencon, although augmented with some more almonds and other nuts. When I stayed downtown I would get a good breakfast at the hotel, and snack the rest of the day The shift breaks were usually bathroom and refilling my water bottle, a couple big handfuls of snacks and back to coaching.
I get a real meal at Scotty's Wednesday on arrival, and one somewhere (often Scotty's again) Sunday before leaving.
Last year I was out at the airport, so breakfast was out since I had to catch the bus. So more GORP last year!

Yeah, gorp is a snack often used by hikers for energy - nuts, raisins and other dried fruits, M&Ms or some kind of chocolate for energy.

You could try some Soylent. It is a complete meal worth of nutrients in powdered form. I have yet to try it, but at least it isn't people?
