TOPIC: Do Scroll Modifiers work on "Cast as a Scroll".

Do Scroll Modifiers work on "Cast as a Scroll". 6 years 2 months ago #1

A friend and I were just discussing this interesting idea and we can't find a clear reference saying no to it.

The Bracelets of the Zephyr entry reads as such, "The bonus spell is “cast as a scroll” so it may not be modified by skill tests or other enhancements which normally apply to spells, nor may it be duplicated by other items/effects."

So since the bonus spell is "Cast as a Scroll" is it modified by tokens that modify scrolls?

So if a caster casts a damage spell as a scroll, and is wearing a Charm of Charm of the Sage (Bard Song is active in this scenario) and has a Greater Arcane Scroll Tube, does that spell get +4 damage?

Our Reasoning is that the Spell turned "Scroll" no longer possesses the "spell" descriptor, but instead the "scroll" descriptor. Thus, while it can no longer be modified by items that effect "spells" it can be modified by items that effect "scrolls".

Nope, sadly not.

"As a scroll" is shorthand, used on some tokens due to space constraints that means:

"Can't be modified, duplicated, altered, etc., etc.,"

It does not mean (somewhat confusingly) that it is to be treated as a scroll.

Specifically, you can't double things cast "as a scroll" with Gloves of the Cabal, Arcane Scroll Tube, or Greater Arcane Scroll Tube.
