New for 2015 -- Psychic Powers! 10 years 1 week ago #1

I have crafted a simple set of Psychic Power rules for a little bit of extra fun for 2015 and beyond. We thought we would get fancy and put the proposed rules in PDF format. This way you can print it out and give it a careful read.

I am adding this new area of TD to give the next Eldritch 7-year token series (Teeth of Cavadar) a bit more coolness, and to reward big collectors for their support over the next 7 years. The power level will build over the next seven years, and it will culminate in a transmuted Eldritch item that will provide 80 Psychic Points as well as a chance to attend an invitation-only special event in 2021.

Please let me know your thoughts on the process and powers. I decided to keep it fairly simple as shown.

In 2015 you MUST have a Ioun Stone: Amethyst Ovoid to have Psychic Power (although you will only have zero Psychic Points without the 1st Tooth of Cavadar). In 2017 we may release another UR that will grant the power as well.

Nice. Useful but not OP. Though I can see some issues with puzzle interaction with the water walking. I'm guessing Eric will have concerns with more elemental damage reduction.

Thanks, Jeff! Are these the only two UR's that will grant psychic powers, or will there be a new one released every other year?

I don't see anything on the list that seems too unbalancing, but I'd be extra careful to not put anything on there that will cause problems with future room design (walking on water seems like it might limit water barriers in the future).

I'm going to assume one of the extra benefits for completing the 7 piece tooth is going to be casting psychic abilities 2+/per game, but even then it seems kind of underwhelming to me. I hope some small stat bonuses get attached like on the rod. I'm sure the eldritch set bonus will be good though. The special event sounds exciting a great reward for long time collector's, but is sure to cause some whining in the future lol.

There will probably be 3 of them before the 7-year run is over.

It probably doesn't pay to underestimate our capacity to whine, but this is not all that much different from the situation with golden tickets. Sure there is a chance for small buyers to get one, but mostly they go to the big fish.

Players wishing to use a Psychic Power must equip an IOUN STONE AMETHYST OVOID(or another future token that unlocks Psychic Potential) to their Coach at the start of the adventure.

Did you mean to say "plane sight" implying creatures from a different plane?

Or "plain sight" as in making unseen things visible?

The powers look good. Nothing super powerful, but several small effects that are nice to have.

What type of action is it to use these Psychic Powers?

No matter how many Psychic Points a character has, no more than one Psychic Power may be used per adventure.


If I have both the Ioun Stone Amethyst Ovoid and the 2017 token would I be able to use Psychic Power more than once per adventure? If so, could I select the same Psychic Power each time?

Each player will total and track their Psychic Points.


Why do we need to track them if Psychic Powers can only be used once per adventure? Or does "track" here mean the player needs to remember which Psychic Powers they are eligible to use?

I like it a lot. I really like that you can do a variety of things. Yes, it's very versatile. Yet not overpowered.

You basically add a new power each year.

My thought is maybe make lvl 6 and 7 a little different, 7 is just a better 6. Maybe change it up like negate 5 damage and then deal 5 damage of a different type back to the monster or source. Thus controlling the energy.

Why have a power with <10pts if the first token has 10pt capability and future teeth would presumably have >10 (80+/7)?
Will there be Rares or other tokens which will have smaller amounts?
