TOPIC: Suggestions for an auction?

Suggestions for an auction? 4 years 5 months ago #1

With the large number of auctions being run, I'm curious is anyone has an idea for something different that they'd like to see. For example, I don't recall seeing any auctions where any golden ticket is available to the auction winners (as a raffle or something) or where the random URs are included in the auction. Would making items like that make an auction more appealing?
Specific ideas - yeah or neah:
Sell the random URs (maybe posting a video with the die rolling for who gets what)?
Make the random URs part of what the top 8 or 9 bidders get for bidding (highest bidder picks first)?
Have the order be condensed and sell the rares or uncommon in groups?
Have the order be standard and sell all the random bits and pieces individually?(This seems like a horrible idea - hopefully not something people want)
Include random "door prizes" for the top 10 bidders such as old URs or relics from my shop?
Have the auction be very brief such as 3 days or 4 days?
Have the auction be very long such as 3 or 4 weeks?

I am considering running one but I'm really only interested in a small number of items from it so I'd like your thoughts both on the questions I posed but also new ideas.

I was thinking about this too recently! Honestly, what I would like is an auction for random URs listing “1st choice, 2nd choice, etc” through 9nth choice. That way, you know exactly what order pick you are bidding on. The other option would just be to do more standard bidding for a random choice and then list out the 9 you get, roll, then have those 9 people pick based on their roll order or maybe their bid order (but not bid amount). I think it would be nice to see those guaranteed random tokens auctioned off too. I’m not sure I would bid on a golden ticket chance or 10th random UR chance, because it is not guaranteed, but maybe other people like that idea.

I agree on the Golden Ticket - that is too variable to really have as part of the auction. The random UR's definitely make sense. I am thinking of allowing bidding on the first 4 or 5 then have the remainders be selected like a raffle. My guess is random UR #6 might not be of as much interest as #1. With the fantasy league, we identified 6 items that will be in really high demand (all 3 arcane items, shirt of the oaf, charm of broaching, and charm of glory.) The skull will get a lot of interest since it is slotless as well. There are other great items but many are class specific or are influenced by BiS for certain classes (like rings) (lenses of agility, ring of the drake, ring of wonder, ioun stone banshee prism, bracers of reckless fury).

I'd also like thoughts on interest in rare and uncommon tokens (rather than as much trade goods), timing, and other ideas.

Fred,

This is a good idea. I might incorporate something like this if I can't raise enough fund from initially listed items but get relatively close to the auction goal.

my thoughts would be:

1x First Pick - Random UR $X

1x Second Pick - Random UR $X

1x Third Pick - Random UR $X

1x Fourth Pick - Random UR $X

1x Fifth Pick - Random UR $X

I would post the 9 or 10 ultra rares received from the purchase.

This allows for some individuals to pick up an UR at a lower price point. With 2020 being pretty good year for tokens, i would see value in this.

Selling the random urs is complicated by the logistics:

A. How would the buyers be confident a swaperoo didn’t take place pulling out the more desirable ones?

B. If you get multiple orders your random Urs might not be delivered in a way that lets you say which ones are from what order. You might just get a bag with 19 URs if you place 2 8k orders for example. How would you handle that?

GTs rates are unknown - but I’d guess it at 1 per 2-3 8k preorders - so there auction would amount to an auction of the GT if one is found. This again intruduces a trust problem - if once the tokens arrive GTs are going for 1100 on the forums and a buyer won thee chance at one for 900 and the seller says “Too bad - didn’t get one.” What’s the buyer to make of that situation.

Posting a live video feed of opening the order would be one option to help with the trust issue, but I definitely see the concern.

For a bag of 19: flip a coin for each of the 19 and heads is lot 2 and tails is lot 2. The first lot to get to 10 causes all remaining tokens to go to the other lot. Once they have been sorted then let the picking begin.

Good points. Would have to trust the individual or do a video / time lapse opening & post. Can also ask TD HQ to perhaps put all URs / golden ticket in a separate bag? Also possibly ship the auctioned order separately from other order.

I wouldn't sell a chance at GT as it isn't a guarantee token per order. After the fact of receiving a GT would be the likely scenario.

Every large I have done has been shipped separately. They were never mingled. Of course, I also order them under different orders.

I think these items may constitute a large part of the incentive to hold a $7500 auction. Sure you could sell them too but then why hold the auction at all other then to eat $500 plus shipping and I guess have a larger order history at year end.

Still gives you the chance at a golden ticket. Personally, if I were running an auction and auctioning up more of the “extras”, then I would increase funding threshold above 7500.

The rubber meets the road for this proposal with how much people would be willing to pay for the 9 extra random URs.

If they won't pay more than the seller thinks they can probably get from them otherwise, it probably won't work. If they do, then this is probably a good idea.

I'm curious what people would pay.

I think my top bid would be in the range of:

$60 on UR 1, 2
$50 on UR 3
$35 on UR 4-9

And I also think 2020 is an unusually good year for this - many potential BiS, ingredient, or otherwise chase URs and very, very few total duds - so this might be the year to try it.
