TOPIC: Combination Trade/Bid Auction for 2020

I am thinking of doing another auction for 2020 but have this one be a hybrid of what I did last year. Last year, I let people trade in tokens I am looking for in exchange for a certain number of PYP's, Cavadar teeth, etc.. I think I probably over-complicated it a bit by having it just be by trade then trying to normalize the value of what is being traded versus PYP values.

This time, I am thinking of just doing a straightforward ebay style auction letting the cash value of items vary based on bids. At the same time, I'm still looking to fill in holes in my collection as well as get some items for friends.

How would people feel about an auction format where I allowed a combination of cash and trade-ins to equal the value of what they bid? The only catch I see is that items I am seeking in trade would get spoken for in trade credit. That means someone might commit to $1000 in trade credit but PYP prices might go higher than they thought and they might not get as much out of it as they thought.

Last year, it worked well but the list I was seeking was much larger then than it is today but this year's items are substantially higher value in price.

Any ideas on how to make this work better (or if it is a bad idea altogether?

My initial thought is that the items being so high in value might make it harder, not easier to determine bids.

Maybe the trades->cash value could be settled up at time of payment?

The only problem there is that people might bid thinking item X is available for trade but someone else used that item in value first. An example would be Pern's helm. I'm only looking for one - so the second person looking to pay their order in trade might not be able to afford the cash value since they planned to use the item for payment.

That's the bit I am having trouble working around.

Would be interested to see how something like this shakes out but it seems like this could get messy. If you do run an auction I'd most likely bid on some things.

The last one that was sold went for $10,000. Prior to that, the previous one to change hands was probably over ten years before that. These basically never change hands.

Hourglass may be off also.

Most seems to be cash prices where trade prices would be different.

I would agree about the Hourglass too. It was literally the last Ultra Rare that I acquired to complete my collection of having every...single...UR...token, and I only got it because Rob F. was awesome and gave it to me.

After getting a good deal of input, I'm shelving this idea for an auction like this - ultimately, it's over-complicating elements that don't need the mess.

I'm doing a couple orders but I'm waiting until the 2020 order details are finalized. Most likely, I'll run an auction on the 25th or so.
