Matt, could you provide some guidance on where early registration is outlined concerning the buttons? I can't find it on the store page.

Here's an email Jeff sent out to prior adventurer's guild members (or maybe patrons?):

Isn't it like 8 hours to go?

Right you are!

Sorry for any confusion, auction ends at 8 PM tonight, pacific time (subject to various extension rules).

Update - I'm processing the final few bids now - I'll announce shortly:

a. Did we hit the goal.

b. Are any items extended due to bid changes after 5 PM pacific time.

Hooboy - first off I'd like to apologize to everyone for the confusion around end times - the original note indicated and end time of 6 PM Pacific, and I became confused (twice!) on Sunday and alternately indicated the end time as variously 8 PM Monday, and 8 PM Sunday.

Fortunately none of that appeared to matter, as I didn't receive a single bid between 6 PM and 8 PM Pacific time, and no items changed winning bids between 5 and 6 PM.

Also unfortunately, the grand total of final bids did not reach the $8,000 threshold, so the auction has failed and will not be implemented.

I will probably be placing and order of my own, and will have some of the pieces listed here for sale. I may contact some of the bidders via PM to offer you some of these items, which of course you are under no obligation to accept.

Well - this was a fun experiment - a bit of a bummer to see it get so close, and an interesting data point as to what sorts of profits resellers may be capable of making.

So I have to say Matt, this seems really shady...

It appears you were extremely close to the 8k goal here like $150 off... and you likely could have made it work with a few last minute bids... it's even more odd that you plan to buy it anyways and selectively sell items...

In addition to this, last week you had posted an ebay auction for a 2017 Onyx set which I won for a pretty nice price, but you ended up telling me you didn't have it...

I'm still fairly new to trusting folks here with preorders and purchaces and from on outsiders perspective this seems pretty suspicious.

This could be an innocent mistake and possible just poor planning on your part, but just in case it's not, I felt the need to post this. Either way, I wont be participating in your forum or ebay auctions going forward.

I'm sorry it seems shady to you.

I can only appeal to the fact that:

1. The auction total didn't reach its reserve of 8,000.
2. The auction was initially announced to end at 6, and then mistakenly announced to end at 8 PM PST.
3. There were 0 bids placed between 6 PM and 8 PM PST.

If I'm incorrect about #3 I invite anyone who thinks they bid between 6 and 8 PM PST to clarify here that they did.

As for the eBay auction, I made a mistake, I apologized and refunded you extra money.

Here is the full story for people who have now read your side, all of which can be backed up by eBay correspondence. Last month I accidentally listed both a 2016 and 2017 ONYX set, when I only had a 2016 ONYX set available on eBay. I have sold both of these items on eBay in the last 3 months.
  • Guedoji/designer7x won the 2017 ONYX Set, and I told them I didn't have it.
  • I offered them their choice of a refund or the 2016 ONYX set in substitution, they chose the refund. Guedoji/designer7x has chosen in their summary of events to not mention that I offered a replacement item of similar value, while simultaneously implying I may have chosen to not fulfill their order because they won it at "a pretty nice price."
  • By way of apology, I also proactively refunded Guedoji/designer7x's full $6 shipping cost on the other items they won in that same eBay auction, another fact they chose not to mention in their summary of our eBay interaction above.

If you had questions about the end of the auction, or why I would not want to go forward with fulfilling this auction when it didn't reach it's minimum guaranteed total price, or any other thing you didn't understand about the motivations I have, you could have posted those questions here, or PMed me and I would have been happy to explain to you the factors involved.

If it makes you feel better, I'm currently offering to sell around 8 items worth around $475 total to 5-6 buyers, in most cases for less than the final auction prices, and for exactly the final price for the rest.

I could completely understand if something significant changed in which you could not complete the order or if the auction didn't go well and you would have taken a huge loss so decided to back out. However, what I see here is an auction that ended with only about $150 left on the table in which you canceled, then followed up stating you will likely place your own order anyways.

Yes you did refund cost and shipping, that was the right move for the situation. The eBay transaction was more of an annoyance than anything at first, i'm still shocked that someone would auction something they didn't actually have, it seemed suspicious to me as it was in line with the result of this auction (in that maybe you didn't feel it met your reserve price). I'll accept this as a mistake.

    No... that doesn't really help.

Perhaps a more favorable option here, instead of canceling the whole thing would have been to extend the auction out another day (correcting the mistake/confusion on timing) or even asking folks for their opinion or if they wouldn't mind filling the minor gap so you didn't take a loss. Your final response to the matter came across as... So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

No questions, I just think its important that you (and others) selling items like this to think about how it impacts others when making decisions, hence the post. At this point i'm done being mad about it... I'm here to loose sleep over the anticipation of the next run, not over failed token deals.
