I recall running numbers on the two CoA recipes at the time, and they were about the same, unless you were using a HoP as 4 pts in the second. But I didn’t write anything down.

Were they about the same using the current values for the tokens on the non point based recipe (probably around $700 at the time for HoP )?

The then-current values? Pretty close. Other URTEs were about $100 per point, so if you were starting from nothing, ingredients for both recipes were about equal, IIRC. Things have obviously changed since then, and the older I get the more things I forget. I remember the feeling that they were “fair” better than the exact numbers.

I don't think i'll be using recipe #2 for the lute. Just doesn't quite look good enough but maybe that's just me.
Also, dropping down to 1 instrument is just asking for it to get destroyed. I'm sure Eric will be gunning for these new lutes.

Ultimately i'm sad how far down the lutes got nerfed from their original releases but oh well.
I'll still be making one because it allows me to switch out my instrument without paying the free action cost.
The flexibility is nice.

Recently I borrowed a bunch of instruments from Smak and he asked "why do you need all 3?"
My answer was "options". I like having options available.

I have been debating if I would rather use 1 or 2 on the lute as well. Well when I get to the point I would be ready for it, which likely is not any time soon. I have 2 of the instruments already. So is it going to be easier/cheaper to acquire the 3rd or get 2 more UR's. I have plenty of time to decide later but something I need to consider.

Agreed, I like to have all the instruments for our Bard. I won't bother getting the new one though.

Not to make assumptions, but I feel like there will be others out there that will not upgrade or get the new lutes because they are expensive and don't represent a sizable enough upgrade for the trouble.

Is that your reason for not getting the upgrade?

I'm not getting the UR Lute because I want the Bard to be able to do more than just sing. You're correct that I'm not getting the Relic or Legendary because they don't seem like enough of an upgrade for the cost. Especially for our Bard, all he really wants to do is sing and Swing, and Widseth's can do that. I've got all the key Bard instruments for him (including the Lore one), so he can do everything already in addition to swinging.

To be fair though, there wasn't much chance I'd transmute the Legendary Lute unless the recipe was mainly the UR Instruments, similar to the CoA recipe. The only Legendaries I've ever transmuted were our 10 Charms of Avarice. :)

Not gonna lie, grind is probably the reason I wouldn't let our bard give up his UR instruments regardless of if we made the relic/legendary

Bob Chasan wrote: I haven't gone through the rest of the posts but Chris and Jacob, I think the Canteen of Quaffing is most useful for new players. It's basically allowing you to take a healing potion for FREE. Even if it's an uncommon and healing 3-4 points. It's still a FREE action which doesn't take away from combat unless you're using Medallion of Mystic mouth or something else that requires your free action. IMHO, I think it's a great token.

I agree the canteen is a good new player transmute and is fairly costed but myself and I believe Chris are more concerned with the rest of the non 5 star relic transmutes. They are clearly targeted at the mid tier players since new players couldn’t afford them and higher tier players would already have a better option with an UR. Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like I’m in the mid tier since I’ve been buying the $250 pack each year and running each dungeon and grind available at gencon for the last few years but I’m not really even close to being able to transmute these on my own without purchasing a lot of additional trade tokens and would probably rather just spend the extra to get an UR than an item that becomes useless if I ever do get an UR for that slot.
