I double checked, and it looks like the strength, dex and con stats for 4th level characters are all odd, so in every case, it’s a benefit. Read them this way: +1 melee to hit/+1 melee damage, +1 AC/+1 ranged to hit/+1 reflex save, and +4 hp/+1 fort save. I could see savvy newbies concentrating these on a couple of players to minimize the downside. But yes, coaches will get tired of explaining this.

I'm not sure "+1 melee to hit, +1 melee damage, -33.3% of your total damage in this combat" is a net positive.

I think its less than 33% of total damage.

In the sealed vipers pit, we probably slid 6 or 7 times against medusa, though 2 members were stoned so that probably extended the combat.

Against the final boss we slid 4 or 5 times.

When you don't have a ton of tokens to deal with, each combat round goes faster.

True, and I suppose half the party skipping a round of sliding makes it go even longer.
