I vote we leave the Quivering Palm as a unique effect. I don't want to dilute that away from Monks, as it's really one of the coolest things they can do in D&D, probably in TD as well.

Doesn't everyone cheer and high five when a team member crits? I know I do.

Wouldn't it be weird if that happened and everyone rolled their eyes and proceeded to wait for about 10 minutes?

How about we borrow something else from Monks- what if a 20 on the first slide stunned the monster instead? Still very powerful and a cool effect to have attached to your weapon.

Or maybe a completely sideways wacky effect like:

If you slide a 10 or less, and still hit, you crit?

I really dislike the auto-kill feature.

A day may come when a barbarian manages to do this in two different combat rooms during the same run.

I won't presume to know what's fun for others, but I know that I would have a wretched time if that happened. If it were my first year, I know for a fact that I wouldn't come back.

Now, even if it happened today - and even if it were achieved by the barbarian in my own group, I'd be really disappointed. I'd feel like I was robbed 1/7 of my $78.

Heck, I'm looking at getting a Charm of Awareness because I hate losing even a turn in combat.

I'm going to put my vote with the others that are lobbying to take the auto-kill off.

My proposed solution would be to give a flat damage bonus for sliding a natural 20 on the first hit. Maybe +20. That would be 44+ damage. I think that could let you remove the "rooms 1-6" text.

Note that I realize Quivering Palm can have the same effect. I probably wouldn't be happy with that either.

Generally agreed.

What if it just let the Barb Crit monsters that are immune, and added +5 damage on 20?

I agree with this also. Where's the fun in combat for the rest of the group if the Barbarian kills it on the first slide? That's basically 10 minutes of waiting around for the next room for everyone any time this token instakills.

If there is an auto kill feature it should be like the one before it (Quivering Palm). Replace one of the damage numbers with a symbol of some sort and make the auto kill function only if a 20 is slid AND the symbol faces the damage dot on the board.

Maybe change it to be like the Long Spear of Dragon slaying, where it only kills one type of monster? And needs to line up with the damage wheel symbol?

Great idea Mike. I like it. And yea the Quivering should maybe be left as a special for the Monk. The death strike is kind of their thing.

And like the assassins crossbow.

D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Well I picked a bad week to not check the forums! Late to the game again. There is no way I can read through everyone's posts (although I skimmed some), so I'm just going to post my impressions.

Very first thing ...Hat of the Hellway....Frank! All around me our familiar faces Worn out places, worn out places
LOL! But about the Hat, on par with Twolf's, Helm of Retribution, Probably better than Crown of Might, and better than Dragonscale Helm and Mithral Helm. Plus it is usable all classes. Seems like it is pushing the line to too good.

Earcuff of the Phalanx - Big AC jump out off the ear -- seems way to powerful to me. If it must stay then why not +1/+2/+3 AC instead...teams that equip all 10 +3 AC to everyone is still real good.

Fixed Fate Lt Crossbow seems Pretty great! To good?

Everything else seems on point to me -- and as a Pally +2 Holy Avenger makes me smile.

There's my 2 cents.

Re Death Flail

Regardless of what it does, if it’s going to keep the phrase “room 1-6,” can we change it to “except final room?” You know, because Grind (which typically has less than 7.)

Not a big deal either way.

Death flail: maybe only affects man-size or smaller. Large heads are too difficult to crush with a single blow.
Or daze is a good idea.

Gregors tome: please dont split it up for different classes.

I like your idea but I would scale it up a few notches as it only takes 7lbs of pressure to break a bone. A Barbarian can crush in the head of a Giant with enough of a good swing to smite it with that flail. Dragons are a bit of a stretch but maybe he can swing it hard enough to smash in its eye driving it straight to its brains.

This flail is a B-Movie's Dream.

Boom goes the Devil Drake when this Rogue slides a 20 with a Holy Hand Grenade.

If it stays a Focus item... agree... but if it is to become a skill test bypassing item... shouldn’t it be split? Although I guess if it was cleric, druid, wizard... that’d be ok, as long as there was a penalty... but does bard fit with the group?

They say that the best weapon is the one you never have to use. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to use once! Oh - and if you really need to think about whether you're going to use the fireball or the + umpty staff of butt-whooping - you're likely to find yourself full of arrows, or fangs, or nasty knives & swords and such. Don't think - just shoot!

Well, bard isnt on the current version. Probably because the skill check for bard has a very different function/usage compared to other spellcasters. Personally, i dont want to have to buy multiple different URs just to get the exact same effect when i play a different class. I suppose if you gave an additional ability that is class specific it would make sense, but just passing the skill check would be a nice item to have for any time i play any spellcaster.

Yes. I can definitely see that. But then the tome either needs to be focus, or bypass... and I like it more as focus... there could certainly be a bypass token... but I really do like the addition of another focus item....

Same, decided to do some fishing upstate.

Not digging or loving much of this year's UR's as a fighter main. I am glad to see the helm though as twolf's been out of print long enough that it's more than a little pricey for ranger/mid tier fighter types.

I actually like the earcuff, solid choice for non charming users. i really like to see Orbits reprinted especially with proliferation of 'must have' ioun stones.

Lute really feels weak, especially when compared against Widseth's lute and even the fantastic blowgun rare we got recently.

Really like the idea of reusable polymorph. Any way to get a version at rare with a drawback say slot restriction?

Ring of spiteful heroism, this could fall into the medallion of heroism trap, as in it's not bad but not really desired and really a hand me down UR. I don't mind and rather see straight reprints or functional reprints of tokens in slots before. Or use this UR as an excuse to open up Ring of Heroism again. Say this UR plus so many completion tokens.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven
