I think about the huge volume of tokens which are transmuted every year. I suspect that they are just being stored in buckets. This just feels like a huge waste of money and resources. I doubt it is easily possible to recycle the tokens.

I would like to see less new common tokens be printed next year and instead have something like 50% of the commons taken randomly out of storage. So maybe only make 20 new tokens. Not sure how feasible this is.

Although maybe it would be better to do this for the 20th anniversary. Not print any new common, or uncommon tokens at all and just clean out the warehouse.

From what we've always been told most of the old tokens that cannot be repurposed for something like a dragons horde (or just used for weight) are throw away each year. Even if they were retained from what I understand the packaging of tokens happens at the factory over seas so there really wouldn't be a way to get those old tokens shipped to the factory, sorted, and repackaged.

For what its worth a large amount of the rares/uncommons turned in early in the year very likely find their way into the treasure used later before being turned in again so at least they are recycled a few times before they are discarded.

A large percentage of presales are $1k “condensed packs” without any commons, just the trade goods they would, on average, convert into, plus the uncommons and rare.

And at some point in the year, the transmuted tokens are often repacked into 10-packs for the coaching room. (That’s my understanding why you sometimes get them in shrink, and sometimes in little velvet bags.)

So, there’s that.

But yes, a lot of them still end up at the dump. The stickers don’t come off, and separating plastic from metal is a pain, so they don’t recycle. Maybe TD should glue them into cylinders and build a new log warehouse out of them.

Whether or not the physical tokens can be reused, I suspect we're reaching a point where each years Commons and Uncommons could mostly be reprints from earlier years. This could slow down the ever-increasing complexity of the game (which I think could be a good thing).

They more or less already are, just reskinned.

If they really are just being thrown away, I wonder if they could be made into 5 or 10 packs to be handed out with the newbie sealed / free events. Though that would required hauling them around as well labor to sort them

I'd like to suggest a reprint of one of my favorite woodies, the weighted net . It would be nice to have one that worked better with the new magnetic sliders, and honestly it was always a fun mechanic.
