I do not miss those days at all. I thought having only one light sucked. :pinch:

Mike Steele wrote: I kind of miss the old days when the entire group just had one torch (unless you had a token that granted an additional light source), and the overall lighting was a lot lower. It did make it a LOT harder to read puzzles, but it really did feel like your group was wandering inside of a Dungeon. Those old torches were pretty cool too. :)

Before my time but that sounds pretty awesome...

The torches looked cool, but were a crappy source of light.

For those who weren't around, click here to see what the torches looked like. Here's a video . (That may not be the exact model, but it's close.)

Sure, they looked fairly realistic, but they were prone to breaking and going out in the middle of your adventure due to worn-out batteries. They were a PITA for both players and staff.

Using my potion of Night Vision... I will wear my NVG's to simulate the Night Vision. :)

It's against the rules to bring your own light, as others have said.

That said, I keep a better one in my pocket, but only bring it out to help find the occasional token that flies off the combat board.

Using a strong light will mess up your night vision, so it's counterproductive in the long run for most people.

Light Sources
The only light sources permitted in the dungeon are the ones provided by TD. Players may not use personal devices for illumination.

I still have one of those glowing green orbs somewhere (no idea if it still glows). I remember Jeff sold them off when he stopped using them. :)

Lighting has always been some sort of an issue--too little you can't see your tokens--too much you lose the ambiance.

The first dungeon I ever ran, our fighter was carrying the torch and fell into the abyss and died. When "Death" escorted him out he took the torch too because it was lost in the abyss. We went through the last 4 or 5 rooms with no light but items or whatever was in the rooms. By the end, I was the only survivor and faced the last room alone in the semi-dark with no torch to examine things closely. Great memory. It was hard and frustrating, but I loved it.

Great story! I remember how much fun it was with just the one torch, where the entire group would have to stay together to see what was going on, and whatever was beyond the torch range was a mystery. It was certainly more difficult, but created a great atmosphere. With all the current lighting it's a lot easier to see (which is great), but doesn't have as much of a feeling of going through a gloomy dungeon. On the other hand, with some of the amazing effects and animatronics we have now, I'm glad there's sufficient light to see and appreciate them. :)
