TOPIC: Party Lights

Party Lights 8 years 8 months ago #1

It might just be me, but on at least 50% of my runs over the past 3 years I have been dissatisfied with my random LED light. Either it is dimmer than everyone else's, it flickers, or on 2 occasions it died on me completely.

Has anyone asked if it would be permitted if we bought the exact same lights for ourselves to use in the dungeons?

That way we can make sure it works and has fresh batteries. We could paint them a different color so it would be obvious they are ours and we aren't stealing them from TD.

They are actually called oriental paper lantern lights.

I swear I saw something about Jeff doing something with the lights, but for the life of me I can't find it.

Definitely not allowed inside the dungeon. Ok for outside.

I have brought a small flashlight the last several years because of this. One of the small ones that runs off of 1 AAA battery. Nobody has said anything about it, but it is very useful when trying to read a "poster" or scan the room.

It's against the rules to bring your own light, as others have said.

That said, I keep a better one in my pocket, but only bring it out to help find the occasional token that flies off the combat board.

Using a strong light will mess up your night vision, so it's counterproductive in the long run for most people.

As an AC, I keep a small flashlight on me all the time, but when I do my runs as a player, I would only use it to locate a lost token or item.

I kind of miss the old days when the entire group just had one torch (unless you had a token that granted an additional light source), and the overall lighting was a lot lower. It did make it a LOT harder to read puzzles, but it really did feel like your group was wandering inside of a Dungeon. Those old torches were pretty cool too. :)

Thanks. Hopefully that means validating all the lights and adding some new ones.

I was going to keep my out for a small micro light that i could pass off as issued by TD. Hoping somebody around here has a good suggestion as to what/where to buy. Even if its just a pack of the disposable ones used currently. Make me feel better to have some spares.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven
