Mike Steele wrote: Jeff, I suspect eliminating the Nightmare dedicated runs is helping the fast sellout. I think a lot of those 660 tickets left at this point last year were for Nightmare runs. It will be interesting to see if there a lot of people not able to get Nightmare runs because those slots are eliminated.

The problems with past attempts to have Nightmare slots is that the times were all bunched together and were at inconvenient times of the day.

This Event Reg, what I found annoying was the sheer number of events where just a couple of tickets were bought. Really hard to buy a full run.

Might be nice to have a range of "Nightmare" slots, if only so that people could buy a full run. (And if they really wanted, they could buy the full run and convert it to Normal like in past years).

Ideally it would be nice if there were some runs which could only be bought if you bought the full slot, but I don't think GenCon would like that. So maybe the best option is to bring back the Nightmare slots, which resulted in a similar end result.

I wouldn't mind seeing the dedicated nightmare runs return, though its worth remembering the reason they were discontinued in the first place is that there were usually people joining without reading and getting them downgraded anyway.

Why not just set aside a certain number of runs that are the full price for 10 tickets and only available on the first day? After that, they become available as individual tickets for any runs not purchased. Not sure how many are typically sold with 10 tickets to one person, but I am sure that number could be found and say 1/2 of that number could be handled in such a fashion.

I could be misremembering, but I thought I recall an anecdote where GenCon was opposed to this (packaging all 10 tickets into one set).

If it was allowed I do think that offering some $520 full runs would be a good idea. The casual player is unlikely to pick those up by accident like they might have done with a Nightmare run.

GC won't let Jeff pre-sell tickets.

They might be OK with letting a % of runs be "single" $520 events similar to how the D&D All Access Pass is technically 4 events wrapped together.

I wonder what the percentage of full run ticket purchases were. It seems like many on the forums went that route.

I bet you it is a pretty small percentage (fewer than 10-20%). We have to remember that us forumites are a definite minority of the TD players out there.

Gen Con has forced the issue into being single ticket sales. There are multiple reasons but they are all on the Gen Con side. Part due to the system to buy the tickets and how they track them and the other part of just GC saying NO!

Glad the ticket sales went so well Jeff. It's shaping up to be another great year at GenCon, and I'm excited to be part of TD again this year both as a volunteer and as a player.

There weren't any dedicated Nightmare runs last year, unfortunately. 2013 was the last year for those.
