TOPIC: Gen Con hotel acquired through Priceline

Gen Con hotel acquired through Priceline 9 years 3 months ago #1

I was able to do the Name Your Price thing for a room at the Baymont Inn (2 1/2 stars), just outside of downtown Indy (east side, between I-465 and I-70. Three nights (Thu-Fri-Sat) for $70/night.

Just thought I'd share in case someone else wants to try to get a similar deal, you might be able to get the same price if you act quickly. I'm guess prices will rise fairly quickly after badge registration next week.

That one is a little bit of a drive. Not too bad as far as price goes though. I think the Baymont in Beech Grove is the same distance, but you can shoot straight up 65 to get to downtown. Good luck all!

Is there a shuttle system for any of these non-downtown hotels? My friedn will be coming to GC for the first time.

Usually not for those. Some of the airport area ones maybe.

What my friend and I did last year was either take a cab to the convention center or to a hotel on the shuttle route or a combination of the two. Last year a one way cab ride home was around $30 - roughly close to the cost of parking there. Split between two people it was doable. The more money I saved on hotels the more cash I had on hand for last minute True Dungeon pick up groups. :D

If you had gone with the west side, I could have gotten you a ride at least one day. I am on the NW side of town, a little south of where 65 meets 465.

With how bad things are with GenCon and getting a hotel this year we took out some insurance and booked the hotel we wanted from the block, and will see if we get a good lotto draw from the hotel lotto and get the lower rate if not we will keep our booked hotel room :) Unfortunally we need to be connected due to knee's and well lets face it, you can't really commute in to play TD when your schedule is something like this....

Teaching 3 TD 101 sessions
2 True Grinds
13 TD runs

Alvin, you're a beast. I did nine runs last year and by run nine I thought I was dead.

Balthasar - thanks man, I really appreciate it. I live near Cincinnati, so I naturally think in terms of what's on the east side. Maybe I'll take you up on that in 2016. :D

I'm half tempted to bring my bicycle along and just bike the convention center. It's only seven miles or so! (in AUGUST)

Some GenCons in August have had beautiful weather, but other times it has felt like a tropical rainforest. Plus the thunderstorms!

Its threads like this that make me glad my friends and I found a nice B&B when we started attending a few years back and have guarded its secret religiously every since. Comes with breakfast and the cab ride is cheaper then the parking would be otherwise.
