TOPIC: GC Exclusivity only through 2015?

Re: GC Exclusivity only through 2015? 9 years 5 months ago #61

For the record, I have done 12 runs over 3 years at GenCon. Going forward I'd be interested in stand-alone events or possibly other conventions, but if TrueDungeon hadn't been at GenCon those last three years I never would have been a player (unless it was at DragonCon instead of course :). I think if True Dungeon ever left GenCon it would hurt both sides. But I am certainly in favor of an additional place to play if only to grow the community (WYC for me works pretty well already, but I'd like attend even more too).

We buy, sell, and trade True Dungeon tokens. We also have a convenient consignment program where you can sell your own tokens.

I was going to WYC this year, but both my and my best friend's flights were cancelled due to weather. I was so relieved that they scheduled it for later in the during this year... I wouldn't try to attend a January/February convention again.

Personally, I'd attend Origins if TD were there. I've been wanting to go to DragonCon for the last few years, as well--I'd be up for participating there.

Bet you'd attend a February event in Charlotte. ;)

The virtue of WYC is that it is in the spring. Orgins in June, DragonCon in September. Both are pretty close to GenCon on the calendar. Logistical challenges seem likely.

In my idea world there would be three substantial TD opportunities per year. GenCon, WYC, and your pick of another. Put an annual cap on XP. Keep GenCon as the flagship event. Would adventures repeat? That would argue against Origns as spoilers would abound for GenCon.

Don't know, just daydreaming here.

I think that is one of the best expansion ideas I have heard. The easy answer is to keep Gencon the start of a new "Season"/year since it is the flagship event. Switching props might make origins more feasable also

for some people it is not so much how the weather is at the event site. It is how the weather is in their part of the country.

MACE is a gaming convention in Charlotte next weekend. It seems like it's growing, but I can't find numbers. I haven't been yet, so I can't say what it's like.

Hmm i was told by afiend who went to GCSoCal that it was not profitable due to union demands in the area for unload\load, setup and such. Has other west coast sites been thought of. I know the current site is doable but I still believe a second date in the spring would bring mad numbers especially around tax time. Heck, even Las Vegas would do great as it is the place to go for different. Thoughts?

Though I have no doubt the unions went out of their way to gouge vendors, I have also heard attendance was a major issue. According to Wikipedia (quoting a 2007 post by Peter Adkison), the attendance figures from 2003-2006 were:
4,148
5,559
6,326
5,840
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

Origins would be slightly closer for me, and if Origins gave a much better deal for TD I would be okay with it. I would rather it stay at Gen Con, but if it needed to move, I would hope Origins would be a location it could move to
