I will be coming from California and I usually use Kayak or Priceline to book travel. For traveling to gencon airplane tickets right now are $350. Should I book travel now or will there be a lull after the holidays where the airlines will drop their prices for a bit? Also will the same hotels most likely have shuttles again? When did they release shuttle schedules this year? If I wanted to volunteer would I share the comped room with another volunteer? Thanks in advance.

You would share a room with three other volunteers.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Shuttles have been the same most years. Though anything downtown is easily walkable to the convention.

The hotel block this past year was a mess if I heard right. Make sure you get registered and in the block early if you want a room.

Hotel block is always a nightmare.

They claim to be allowing 4 day users to reserve hotels a few days early this year. If so that will be amazing.

Just make sure to get on the wait list if you can't get in direct

I was leaning more towards a cheaper farther away hotel that has the shuttle service. Staying at the Hyatt was amazing when I wasn't paying for it lol, but 200 a night isn't really in my personal budget. I'm also debating between renting a car and just using the shuttle. How much is parking usually at gencon? Does anybody have a house nearby with a room for rent as an alternative option to a hotel?

This was my first year at gencon, and the shuttles sucked. Period. If you could be in walking distance I would recommend it. They was a gentleman with a cane that needed to get on the shuttle and the driver had room only for one and not for his friend so they did not take him...... If I did not have a seat waiting for a game I would have gotten off the bus. Perhaps if was just the blue route, but I would say do not put your trust in WotC bus system...

Parking is about $20/day if you want to be close...but that is getting more difficult every year. The govt garage across the street from hall A is not available on thurs-fri because the govt employees need to park there. And just this year the mall parking lots were getting full by noon and i was initially turned away from marriott valet parking, which has never happened before - luckily the guy was someone i worked with at the conrad a few years ago and we had our baby clark in the back seat and my mom was going to be taking clark home in just a couple hours (when our dungeon run started), so he found a temp place for the car.
this is not a signature.

If you get there early enough the Mall parking is great. being attached to the hall its not hard to run to your car and drop off supplies. The Colts staium also opens up their parking a couple blocks down. Only thing to watch out for is if there is another home preseason game gencon weekend.
