TOPIC: Solution videos?

Re: Solution videos? 10 years 2 months ago #25

So actually solving the puzzle in the floor plan room was completely superfluous.

Seriously, we read the clue and realised straight away the answer was speech.

When the first of our party made it accross the floor unscathed we figured it wasn't going to do anything so we just walked up and touched the right glyph.

That's pretty lame.

I still wish the technology hadn't been so slow for the sand puzzle for us (there was too much sand imo). We had the solution pretty much straight away (though we tried all six symbols at once first) but not the time to get it done.

It looks like we were very close to the right solution to the eggs too but didn't get the lights to work for some reason.

I was a DM for The liftoniumgas and we solved it with the 10 tubes on the Wednesday training. If you did it in less then 10 and without going around only one corner you probably stretched out a tube to a connection that wasn't supposed to occur. Many groups got to a dead end, panicked then started pulling random tubes. The around the corner clue saved a couple of groups.

My favorite moment as a DM was when the rouge solved the box, looked back at his party frantically moving tubes,"They got it" as he reached for the treasure.

Puzzles were tough this year. I never even saw a rope on the floor-tile room (Thursday morning @ 9AM) and we never even got close to matching the rights gyphys in the final room on Viper Puzzle.

ok, I know my view is a bit skewed, but...there was only one puzzle that I wanted to hear the 'answer' to in these videos. and the video answer was the most infuriating 'reveal' I have ever seen. I am talking about the switches/lights 'puzzle'. seriously? the 'reveal' is to tell us that there was no pattern, and we just have to brute force it? im sorry, but that is just stupid.

ok, now that ive said that, I would like to restate that I loved this year, most things were amazing. please give us more of everything else and don't give us 12 minutes of switch flipping that ends in frustration because the lights are busted.

The way to solve the switch puzzle was to get all the lights to turn on. The first step was to find the three switches to turn on the little orange light on YOUR section.

Once you had all the little orange lights on you then needed to realize that the switches to turn on the larger white lights in your section were not on your board.

At that point each person on a section would try their switches one at a time while everyone looked at the large lights. When a large light came on a person would yell STOP! Repeat on the next panel until the lights are all lit.

The team of newbies I was with on Thursday figured that out in about 6 minutes.

Once we had all the orange lights lit, I tried to get people to go one at a time. They just kept randomly flipping their stuff on and off until we had about 3 minutes left. It was really frustrating. One guy just kept saying "There has to be a super simple solution that we're just missing." No, we just needed to do this systematically and not randomly try to brute force it...

You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din.

Would the large, inner light turn on if your outer orange light was off?

This puzzle was visually really interesting but technologically challenging. DMs would have to make adjustments as lights and switches began to fail over the four days.

I'm just really curious how we had lights and switches dying after 3 days of use?

I assume everything that went into the puzzle was purchased new?

It's really disheartening to see puzzles fail due to broken parts in a game with an entry fee of $48.

Some lights on the switches were out (in either position) during our Golden Ticket run on Sunday. We asked the DM if they were broken or if they were supposed to be out and he said they were supposed to be like that. I still expect there was a way to solve it besides brute force, perhaps we'll see when the modules come out.

All I did was notice that the orange light went on, The newbies did ALL the rest. I was very impressed. We solved every puzzle even the power pellet with a crew of newbies. I have to tell you they were far quicker than I was when it came to figuring out the puzzles. I helped a little but they were truly amazing.

I am not sure but I do think that the white light would not turn on until you had your orange light lite.
