TOPIC: Prestige classes

Re: Prestige classestoken rewards above all else 4 years 9 months ago #25

I used the Warden subclass in Grind. I was somewhat underwhelmed--although I play Ranger almost exclusively, I'll either be playing something else, or giving the voucher to someone else in my group, going forward.

I see VERY little chance that my voucher will ever go to anywhere but my Bard seeing as the Wizard Prestige classes feel WEAKER than the wizard main classes.

Played my drunken master on zephyr combat run on Sunday. Sits on lame couch as I could get a single crit on any of the monsters.
You don't have to outrun the monster, just the guy next to you - The buddy system.

I didn't play the illusionist, so can't comment on that, but I didn't feel that the sorcerer was weaker than a vanilla wizard, just different. You lose one big spell (fireball or lightning storm), but gain a lot of flexibility in casting - you could use all your 1st level spells as Magic Missiles, if you wanted, and they are practically unstoppable.

all of our vouchers went to the bard. will probably be that way as long as treasure finding is still a thing.

the sad thing is, i dont think we ever actually ended up needing the ability...better safe than sorry though.

I always run with a cleric who uses restore spell on me and a MEC so the loss of my big spell costs me 128 damage in the final room. That's usually 1/2 the boss HP right there.

The change to lower casting is nice but the loss of two MASSIVE hits (with cleric) just does not justify it.

Not to mention Enhance spell is completely useless as written

I wrote a very thorough post explaining that, but no-one appeared to read it.

Do you mean Elevate Damage? If yes, how would you revise it to make it useful?
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections/suggestions in this thread .

No, showing how terribly weak it was an offering two suggestions

What thread?

I would be interested in reading it. I think those subclasses missed the mark compared to other classes. Even though my main (and pretty much only) is a wizard, I will have someone else use my voucher in the party from now on.

Although I'd hate to totally write off the Elf Illusionist without even trying it in practice. I did try the Sorceror and won't go there again.

Well, it is usually not worth the hassle (or the action). In most cases, you would probably be better off casting another Stone Storm spell. If you wanted to keep the same concept, I would suggest either:

A. Casting Elevate is a "Free Action" so you can burn an Elevate with a normal damaging spell, though that would quickly burn through your spell slots.

B. Casting Elevate increases your damage spells by 5 or 10 damage, but for the whole room and it stacks. Then players can try and figure out how much they want to Elevate before starting to unleash their spells.
