I could see a Tokenaholic lamenting that they took his tokens rather than his kidney.

Now something that I was warned about by the owner of a bar. I used to work on the Point of Sale System and the Database server for a Gay bar in Columbus. They also opened up a place in Cleveland and I did all the wiring and setup for that establishment.

Given the bar hours I would usually end my work sometime in the evening. Sometimes I would sit down with the owners and have a drink or two. The owner let me know to be very careful with my drinks. He told me to never let a drink out of my sight and to never accept a drink that I had not seen made or opened right in front of me. There had been several cases of GHB or other drugs going into guys drinks, especially if the victim was known to be straight.

I had never even thought that I could be a subject to that kind of abuse but that conversation opened my eyes to the possibility.

I guess a monster is a monster no matter what their sexual orientation. Thankfully they are in the minority.

When reading the story of Mike's friend, one question that ran through my head is how his drink got roofied.

Not having been there, I can't say whether it was a:

A. Restaurant environment
B. Bar environment
C. Dance / Night club environment

each of which have varying opportunities for things to get slipped into drinks.

And without getting into the issue of "blame" (victims should not get blamed), it would also be interesting to know how diligent or careful the roofied individuals were with their drinks.

As Henwy noted, women are disproportionately the targets of drugged drinks. But as a result, women are often more careful.

I think these occurrences, combined with other recent incidents, simply underscore the fact that the nature/environment of GenCon and True Dungeon has changed, and it would be prudent for *everyone* to be more careful in the future.

To clarify, my friend wasn't slipped a roofie, it was a much stronger narcotic that was put in his drink. We'll probably never know the exact circumstances, because from a combination of the drug he was slipped and the sedative at the hospital to allow the breathing tube, he has absolutely no memory of those last several hours of Saturday morning.

I would absolutely recommend people to be more careful, since there were several incidents of this nature this year.

I just don't get what motivates someone to do something like that.

For the same reason that some people will kick squirrels off cliffs or hang lizards by their tails over a highway.

Not to mention all the human-on-human atrocities (genocide, child/infant rape, etc.) that is not uncommon.

Nope!

To be clear, the rest of us don't need to hear about any squirrel abuse.

Mike I am glad that your friend recovered.

Also if they find the people who did it please ship them to Texas as we know what to do with those kinds of people.

As an Indy resident I am very concerned about the town not being a good host.
