Thanks to Jeff, Fritz, and All 2014 Volunteers!! 9 years 7 months ago #1

I want to thank Jeff, Fritz, Dave, and all the wonderful True Dungeon Volunteers for again making this a wonderful experience and a true highlight of GENCON!

Everything about this year was topnotch! The adventures were extremely fun and interesting. Five of us hired out as Mercenaries on a seven person Viper Puzzle Nightmare run, and then my full group of 10 did Hardcore Combat runs on both Viper and Airship.

We were very blessed to have Fritz along on our Viper Combat Hardcore run as the True Dungeon Photographer. She is both a wonderful photographer and a wonderful person, and it is always a joy to have her on one of our runs.

I'm not going to go into specifics on each room, but more into generalities. The DM's were all wonderful and enhanced each room, the costumes and props were amazing, the volunteers that portrayed the monsters did a fantastic job - the lovely Medusa made it especially hard for us to concentrate. :)

We thought the combats were very well balanced. We were successful in all of them, but many of them did take us nearly the full room - and in some we annihilated them in short order, which is also fun in a different way. We thought the puzzles were visually wonderful, and except for one we either were successful on them or knew how to solve them by the time we left the room - leaving us to wish we were doing the run again so we'd have another shot at them. The only puzzle we had no clue on was the one with the symbols on the floor, I'm looking forward to seeing how that was done.

Some of the effects were among the best ever. We really enjoyed the colored egg puzzle, and the sandbox where you cut your hands over the symbols was extremely cool. We finished that puzzle pretty quickly, and then spent several minutes just playing with the sand with the bleeding effect and the different colors for the different levels of sand.

As always it was great seeing Dave during the transmutations. Unfortunately I wasn't able to transmute my Rods because they were temporarily out and then I wasn't available to come back later, but hopefully I can do so at WYC this year.

I am still concerned about not having XP logged on-site, I doubt my entire party will keep track of their coupons long enough to log them in (especially since several of them still can't access their accounts), but we'll see how that goes. And one lesson learned I had was to have the Coach write in the notes section about the 2 item Eldritch Set and the Lenses of Divine Sight so that we wouldn't have to keep pulling all those tokens out to show the DM's (I especially like to keep the Supreme Rings and Rods safely in the binder).

For anyone that had trouble finding me at GENCON, I was at the hospital intensive care unit with a great friend (and our Bard) from early Saturday morning through Tuesday (which is why I wasn't able to come back to finish transmuting on Saturday). He was one of several people that had a substance put in their drink at a local bar (we assume that is how it was administered), he nearly died but fortunately has made a full recovery. It was a very close call, and we feel very lucky that he will be able to entertain us with his Bard songs for many years to come. And thanks to whomever the anonymous person was that found him collapsed and called the ambulance.

To summarize - we loved everything about the Dungeons this year, from the effects, the volunteers, the fun and well-balanced rooms. Thanks again to everyone that helped make this such a success! We are already looking forward to True Dungeon in 2015! :)

Thank goodness your friend is alright!

I too would like to add my thanks! This was only my second year playing (after selling off my run ticket three years ago) and I am a convert! Kudos, huzzah and cheers!

WTF? I am glad to hear about the recovery of your bard, but what an awful experience. Please pass along our best wishes.

HOLY CRAP! That's horrifying! But I'm relieved your friend has recovered.

Wow, this was quite the year for a-holes at Gen Con...
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

I had a couple friends that had their drink spiked as well. Someone to watch out for next year to be sure folks.

There was a discussion about this on a GenCon (unofficial) facebook page. Apparently the venue opened an event to the public that was supposed to be a GenCon only event. Other accounts of spiked drinks were posted there as well.

Cue the "is GenCon getting too big" discussion....

My friend did report it to the police, and they did tell him that this was far from an isolated incident. One good thing is that the sedative they gave him while he was on the breathing tube was very strong, so he has absolutely no memory from late Friday night until Monday. That was definitely an experience he is better off not remembering.

Were they spiking drinks to "get back at" gencon attendies or something?

Thats horrible. :(
I'm sorry your friend had that happen.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

I have absolutely no idea what the motivation was. Perhaps robbery once the person collapsed?

However, up until that point, this was definitely one of our best GENCON's ever, including all of our True Dungeon runs (which were fortunately all complete by Friday night). My friend will definitely be back again next year!

Very surprising to hear! What bar was it? Not that it was the bar's fault or anything but still good to be aware of if you know.

I think it was the RAM but I'm not certain. He was there with a bunch of my friends, but that was running a bit late for me so I'd already returned to the hotel room. :)

The incident I referred to was at the Cosplay Deviants event. Don't remember the name of the bar but it was not the Ram.

Don't forget the possibity of food poisoning if you also ate. Not saying that's what it was.
