TOPIC: Confessions of a Puzzle DM (year 2 with TD)

Confessions of a Puzzle DM (year 2 with TD) 9 years 8 months ago #1

Well let me start by saying i had my best year so far with TD (granted it was only year 2), but it feels like it will be hard to beat. I was DM Viper pit every day Thurs Night Room 1, Fri Day Room 4, Sat Night room 1, and Sun Day Room 5.

I personally had so much fun, and couldn't have had a better time. i would like to say thank you to all my Bards, that i made sing of the group victory in my rooms, (with the exception of 4, brutal puzzle, most everyone solved 1 and 5) and to all my Barbarians, and Fighters who were good sports with a a little shaming for letting the other classes push random Glyphs in my rooms. finally one last HAZAA!!!!! to let everyone know how amazing i thought all of you guys were, and how much i can't wait till next year.

i'd like to say thanks to Barry and Chuck my Adventure Cordinators, you guys did a great job, and thanks for keeping me informed of any changes, and helping a new DM with every question i came up with. to the DM's who preceded me and followed me i had a blast making little jokes with you guys and coming and going parties.

Lastly to everyone else whom i had no intereaction with i thank all of you for making everything else run so smoothly this year. :woohoo:

I was not one of those who figured out Room 1 in Viper Pit Puzzle, care to share the answer or must I await the full explanation?

The 4 pillars (when viewed from the snake eye marks on the floor) spell out

BOWED, TOUCH, GODLY, GLYPH

Kneel before the glyphs on the Door and touch the SNAKE to open the door

Thank you, we were on the right path but could not turn the letters into words. IT was the first TD run for 8 out of 10 of us. We only Solved the sand puzzle properly, we brute forced the rope and hallway one, but never learned the proper was. Missed the final puzzle too :( Combat we did well on. I like announcing I punched out a Medusa.

The correct order for the words was TOUCH, GODLY, GLYPH, BOWED. if you got spelled them right and went around the room clockwise they were even in the right order.

Sounds like you did a good job! My veteran team never did get the rope and hallway puzzle but we only played it once.
You can't fix stupid but you can TPK it.

About when is the full write up usually released? I am eagerly awaiting to hear how the Rope Room and Final room are solved

Could be a few weeks yet, last years came out Sept 20th-ish if memory serves.

What was the rope room? I'm assuming the one with the floor tiles? Because we never got far enough to know about a rope...

Correct, floor tile one. I don't know where the rope came from in that room to be honest, I think it was on the back wall. I was busy convincing someone not to touch the duck in the dungeon at the time.

If you used the rope to trace out the circle icons in order (1 through 8) you spelled out a S, then the triangles spelled out a P, then 4 sided was E, 5 sided was A I think we didn't get but that far. The solution was to keep going and it would spell out SPEAK or SPEACH which was the Top Left ICON.
