TOPIC: Latex Allergy

Latex Allergy 9 years 8 months ago #1

Hi all,

I wanted to take an informal pole about how many people's runs were impacted due to a latex allergy ( as was the case for me) and as such couldn't do the pipe puzzles.

As one with many allergies I can understand the issue. It's just this is not one on my list. Are you quite well at least?

As a Training Room Coach, I made sure every group was aware well in advance. I had about 2-3 people per shift sincerely thank me for the warning.

And for this I am extremely grateful. Had I not been warned there would have been a good chance that I would have spent time in the Indy hospital.

Had a guy in one of my runs who had a latex allergy. He came through with gloves but still opted not to touch the pipes, which was fine. Would rather be down a man in a crowded room then down a man for the rest of the night due to an allergic reaction.

As someone who has very few allergies I wouldn't have even thought about latex allergies, so I'm glad somebody did!

My understanding from a staff member is that they didn't realize there was a problem until a volunteer grabbed the pipes during set up and their allergy flared up.

It was unusual, but I did hear of several parties who were affected. A person could participate in the second tube room by helping to determine airflow, but would have been pretty limited in the first tube room.

Not really.

Someone could still contribute significantly in the first tube room by checking the energy types for a given column (my groups wasted a lot of time doing that) and/or doing the math to figure out which columns should be used how many times.

One party member on one of my runs had a latex allergy and helped coordinate instead of touching things.

I'm grateful I don't have a latex allergy myself, but upon learning of the potential problem the first time though I made sure to tell my party members about it on all my later runs just in case they didn't hear the DM's warning in the noisy dungeon. I only met the one guy who actually had the allergy though.

My guess is that had TD didn't know it would be a problem for so many (or any) people, and would have gone with a different kind of tube had they known.

True.

Although I don't have a latex allergy, I never touched a tube in room 2. I just let the other players do the tubes, and me and another player checked the math before pushing the button.
