TOPIC: How does Poison work?

How does Poison work? 9 years 8 months ago #1

This might seem silly, but I'm not sure if it works the same way as I've heard from other RPG's. Can somebody just tell me how it works in TD?

Do you mean what happens if you get poisoned or receive poison damage?

Or what happens when you deal poison damage?

Must resist urge to respond with 'well'.

Usually it falls into two categories. Extra damage or saving throw. THe former is usually how players deal poison damage and the latter how monsters deal it. The effect has usually been just more damage though. I don't think we've had any debilitating stat-drain poisons though I could be wrong.

It works quite well, thank you. :P

But seriously, it's one of two things.
  1. It's just a plain old damage type, like Cold or Darkrift.
  2. It's a save-or-something-bad-happens effect.
In version 1, if you are resistant you may reduce or possibly even eliminate the damage you take.

In version 2, point-based poison damage reduction won't help, but Fortitude save bonuses will.

The Medallion of Greyhawk provides 100% immunity to either version.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

I would say it cures any poison damage the character might have taken.
You can't fix stupid but you can TPK it.

It just doesn't fit cleanly into the explanation provided. What would be the effect of using that token for the two situations?

It doesn't cure poison damage. It removed poison effect. Any damage taken would remain.

from the token db:
Scroll Slow Poison
Removes the effect of poison from targeted character.

After confirming with Jeff, the TDb entry for Scroll Slow Poison has been updated to the following:
If cast immediately after a party member gets poisoned, the target will suffer no ill effects from that Poison. Therefore, if the target would have taken HP damage, the target takes no HP damage. If the Poison had some other instantaneous effect (e.g., death), that effect would be negated.

If not cast on the same round (or the first available turn after the Poison was administered), an instantaneous Poison effect cannot be undone, but a lingering effect (e.g., vomiting or paralysis) could be removed.

The power of this scroll cannot mitigate future Poison effects--a new Scroll Slow Poison or some other aid would need to be used.

Note: Unlike the druid spell neutralize poison, this spell cannot be cast on monsters.
