I tried that last year and it did not work so well. I had and extra ticket and placed it with the wait list person. I told the wait list person that if they were unable to dispose of the ticket, to hold it and I would come get it at the start time to run it as a mule. But at the start time in strolls a player who paid with generics and I was hosed. When I ran this scenario by Jeff, he told me that the wait list people were not supposed to be in the ticket selling business.

You might want to check this with TPTB before you try this.

So I read this as:
  1. If you have an extra ticket and you would prefer to sell it you should turn it back in to GenCon for a refund well in advance of the run time.

  2. If you prefer to run without the person for treasure you just keep it and show the paid extra ticket and equip as "mule".

  3. If one of your party paid for a ticket and someone can't make it at the last minute then you try to sell it to someone waiting (but don't involve the waitlist staff) or follow #2 above.

Did I get this wrong?

Exactly! NEVER turn in a ticket that you own to the wait list people. Either try and sell it yourself or double wrist band and take the extra treasure. Heck, even giving it away to someone that you know would be better than losing the ticket you paid for.
You can't fix stupid but you can TPK it.

I have bought around 40 ticket the last two years and 30 the year before that. The first year I made the mistake of getting generics for one of the extra tickets I had. Don't do this unless you can use them. If you take the generics back to get the value they are not credited to you but instead the person that purchased them. If I end up a body or two short now we just run with 8 or 9 and have a fine time.

That's an excellent point Harlax.

I had forgotten the issues which came up previously with people selling their tickets through the Wait List.

I don't think there would be a problem with bringing Cash with you to the Wait List area, just in case a player wanders by who is looking to sell their ticket for cash... but the Wait List staff should be kept out of it.

Thanks for the reminder (and I've updated my earlier post to reflect this)

We had to sell 2 of our tickets last year due to a migraine I just asked people out front of the hall if they needed tickets.

We did a run with 11 people today under these exact circumstances. Generally the extra sword makes short work of any monster encounter.

I showed up really early for my last run tonight and was asked to join one that was just about to go in. This opened up two slots for the original run (I also had a ticket for a friend that couldn't make it). So there's always opportunities popping up.
