Jeff asked me to ask y'all what Player's Guide updates/additions you would like to see.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

Potion usage

Maybe a link to a video of how combat actually works so people don't have to read it.

Its utterly superficial but I'd love to see the art upgraded to have a more 3rd ed+ feel in consistent with the new modules. It would be nice to use the dragon paper too but again utterly superficial.

The player rank chart should be updated to include the 8th level benefit too.

And I'd love to see a section about what to expect going into your first adventure. ie. Do I need to buy tokens first, How early should I show up, what happens if someone has already picked the class I want, what is the checkin/coaching/training experience going to be like. etc. We seem to to get a lot of the same questions about that stuff every year.

A little more info regarding how early should a player show up would be apreciated. Helps avoid the awkward looks when I tell new players to show up 30 min early and they ask how I know that.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

I agree a section for the new players would be great... definitely could have used that myself.

Chris, specifically what would you like to see in the New Players Section?
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

A few things like (I know most of these can be found, but it could be helpful to have in 1 location for the new player)
1. How many tokens do I need to play... is my 10 pack good enough or do I need more?
2. Maybe descriptions of the difference between normal, hardcore, and nightmare... maybe suggestions of what you may need for each.
3. The importance of showing up early and meeting your group.
4. Explanation between player and character levels. Might save some questions and arguments in the coaching room.
5. Consumables... how to use.
6. I do like Laz's idea of a video for combat. That would be much easier than reading... could be split into melee and magic use.

I'm sure I can come up with more... I will think on it.

A few videos would be very good. Example of combat would make an excellent one. The specifics Chris and Picc mentioned are things I would have wanted to read instead of having to bother folk here. For comsumables they need to realize that using it means the token is gone for good. Before they spend $10 on a cool scroll or potion, they need to know it is a one time use and not one use per game.

I think more data in table formats. For example, this would be nice:

Strength: every 2 above 10 gives you +1 to hit and +1 damage for Melee
Dexterity: every 2 gives you +1 to hit for missile weapons,+1 to Reflex save checks, and +1 to AC.
Constitution: every 2 gives you +1 to Fortitude checks and extra HP equal to character's level
Wisdom: every 2 gives you +1 to Will save checks
Charisma: greater than 16 allows two Figurines of Power, no other effect?

Note: Base AC is 10 plus one for every 2 Dexterity above 10.

Another table of rules around equipping. How many rings and charms can I have? I can equip two hands for melee and two hands for ranged separately.

I second the thing about potions: how/when to apply (especially during combat), how long do they last, etc?

A few more suggestions:

  • I don't play any of these classes so maybe I missed something, but perhaps a little more info on Rogue, Wizard, Cleric, etc, skill checks. It seems fairly heavily focused on combat but not the rest.
  • Details on how to resolve conflicts in choice of character class before the run.
  • Little more info about things the player should track (e.g. immunity to cold) that aren't on the sheet.
  • Info about switching between melee/ranged combat during the fight. And what if I have boots that give me bonuses for 1-handed melee, but then I have a 2-handed melee weapon that deals poison damage which I need right now, so when I switch I need to notify the DM that my bonus doesn't apply when it is supposed to take effect.

Not sure if it better to put this all into one post or split it up like this.

There is no listing of difficulties in the Player's Guide: what is non-lethal, normal, hardcore, and nightmare and what are the differences?

Regarding tokens again, in addition to a nicer table format for number of rings, charms, and ioun stones (easier to quickly understand than a bunch of text IMO), I think some basic info on the fact that you get 10 random tokens each run and you can choose to get more if you want to, but don't need to (except for hardcore and higher?).

Maybe something about rarity like is being discussed here:

Until this year I didn't know the difference between the colors. I assumed the silver ones were rare and the gold ones were common.

as a new player, i 2nd this (or nth it--wherever i am in the queue).

perhaps a new player's faq? i can already contribute one question:

"Can my group all play Wizards?"

i have the feeling not, based on higher level players getting to choose their class first; but i haven't found a clear statement saying a group's players must select distinct character classes.

of course, i'm not the most careful reader + may have overlooked just such a statement; hence my petition for a faq.

thanks!
