TOPIC: Volunteering

Volunteering 10 years 2 months ago #1

My husband and I are looking at volunteering for the build and possibly during the con, and I have a couple of logistical questions:

1. We've already booked a room - is there a reimbursement available as with volunteering directly through the con, or do we forfeit room benefits if we've already booked a room?

2. Are badge benefits in the form of reimbursement or does TD buy the badge?

3. At WYC, the program mentioned a need for NPCs and Customer Service, but I don't see those roles mentioned on the Volunteering page. Do they fall under coach/DM? What kind of hours/benefits are available for those volunteers?

Thanks!

They will work something out with you, but you could always release your current stay after you've secured a room with TrueDungeon.

Badges can be refunded or they can be provided by TD. TD tries to get you a badge as soon as it can but some folks can't wait and those folks get a refund through the gencon system. This typically takes a long while just FYI.

DM and Coach are both different roles from NPC and Customer Service. Were they not an option listed?

Worth mentioning my understanding is its 4 to a room if you use the benefit so it can be less then useful if its you and a spouce but the vol cordinators are really willing to go the extra mile to work with you.

I been volunteer for 4 or 5 years now, I can understand the uneasy mind when first year of volunteer.

#1. The rooms from Gen Con block that TD reserve is only for the full times volunteer, such as DM/ Coaching and not for the Union Build Team because the Union Build get there on Monday on noon. While the DM/ Coaching report on Wednesday of that week and not during the Con. If you have already book a room is best to keep it because the block of rooms are spoken for. TD are looking for serious commitment from it volunteer because they don't want the last minutes shuffle when they could focus on the event at hands.

#2. These badge are giving out between Monday or/and Wednesday from the Union Build Team as last minutes preparation because the day of register for events for Gen Con and for it DM/ Coaching also, I think two weeks before that they give codes to enter through your Rubi username with numbers on it. If you don't show up to pick up your badge, then TD reimbursement it automate as a no-show on their parts. It's good that TD has flowing communication it volunteers because has separate phone for only TD use at this times.

#3. The NPC and Customer Service are for the True Dungeon loyalty volunteers that they were there since the begin and will continue to following TD event. So no squeeze there if you plan to dedicate for the following future TD events to the tee as these volunteers has demonstrate they had and will.

I hope this explain a little more in detail than I can of course, for being volunteer myself.

Thanks for the very helpful replies! NPC, Customer Service, and Stagehand came up during registration - they're just not mentioned on the volunteering page.

While I'd have been willing (excited even) to do both customer service or stagehand AND the build, it doesn't look like that's an option, so we're signed up for the build for this year.

As for rooms, we'll have our kids along, and we're in adjoining rooms with another couple that GMs for a different game distributor and their kids - we'd want to stick with those b/c we have childcare duties worked out between us. It's good to know that if we volunteer during the con in the future they'll work with us.

Picking up badges during the week will be so simple for us - it sounds like a lot of thought and planning have gone into this vs. the last group I volunteered with.

Again - thanks for the help!
