If you have a VIG badge, aren't you able to get a room in the VIG housing block?

Kim- my understanding is new VIG purchasers needed to go through the regular housing block, and failing that, you work with housing to get placed based on preferences. Unfortunately when housing opened up I was traveling for work and couldn't get on ><. I was contacted by some VIG staff to assist in housing so we'll see how it goes.

I would think that you should still be able to get a room even with your badge being new because of the VIG housing block is separate. The VIG staff should be able to get it sorted out.

They do hold a few for VIG's but their main advantage is the early housing. I had mine two weeks ago.

As pointed out earlier (and as I can attest to) it's only returning VIGs who get the early housing. New VIGs had the log into housing at 12:00 on Jan 28th like everyone else.

VIGS do seem to have a different block of rooms to choose from (and a different code to use at the housing portal) but it's still plenty irritating when you load a room in your cart, enter payment info, and the room is *poof* gone.

Gotta admit tho, it was awfully cool to get an email from the VIG coordinator later the same day, asking if we'd managed to get a room, and offering to help if we had not yet secured one.

Meh... all you VIGs look alike to me.

LOL j/k its a great perk to get the hotel you want and certainly for this year any perk that makes housing less of a chore is nice.

I still can't believe how many people are complaining about housing. I wanted to secure a good rate and booked two months ago. I'm not downtown, but I've got the whole GenCon span for $200.

Bet you went outside the block though. I pay a little more to he a little closer but I go off the res for housing too. All in all it seems less stressful.

They are complaining because the system did not work well. After incredible delays to get logged in, and showing me hotels that did not have all the nights I needed, I finally got an acceptable room. But by the time I got to the payment screen it said the room was no longer available. I can live with not having a downtown room. Demand exceeds supply. But I'm not ok with not being downtown because of a poorly run system. My experience was far from unique.

Since I was not downtown, I went outside the block and found a really good rate. But it may alter my volunteering plans. The shifts ending at 1:30 am are not bad if you are downtown. If you have a 20 minute drive afterwards though... I am also cutting back on games I organize and DM in another system.
