In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Rope Puzzle Solution

Rope Puzzle Solution 10 years 7 months ago #1

The only puzzle in the Combat runs on the two Dungeons that we weren't able to solve was the rope puzzle. We got the white ropes easily, but didn't quite get the black ropes although I'm pretty sure we were on the right path.

Can anyone say what the solution to that puzzle was? Inquiring minds want to know :)

I assume you're talking about the net to trap the ghost?
I didn't do any combat runs this year but it sounds as if your talking about that puzzle.

If so, you were suposed to form the sacred symbol.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

A riddle reveal video is getting worked on (thanks for the reminder that I have to send some info).

All I can say now is that if you had the white ropes done, you didn't really have anything. The white ropes and the black ropes had to be used together to form the correct symbol. =]
meh

The rope puzzle was annoying. We formed the correct symbol with all of the provided ropes kept taut, but it wasn't the 'right' way of doing it. (Why did the board say 'taunt', anyway?)

Later on in the weekend, someone showed the other method, and we completed it.

The white ropes connected posts what were neighbors with the slack pointed toward the middle. You then ran a black rope through the slack and connected the two posts that were just outside the posts the white ropes were on. This pulled all the ropes taut. Repeat 4 more times, going around the table.

The image that was formed from this was the symbol that the dryad had on her necklace. A Starburst. So a 5 pointed star with very slender points. Most people made a pentagram which is not a starburst. The starburst were made with the white ropes, and the black ones were there to shape it.

Here is how we solved it.
1) Separate White ropes from black ropes.
2) Going one white rope at a time place loops over two adjacent Posts on one side of the table.
3) Using one black rope, pass one end beneath the white rope, and pull the two ends where the white rope almost makes a point to the post opposite of the side the white rope is on, BUT, place the loops of the black rope on the two posts on either side of the opposite post (So in a way it makes an X)

4) Repeat 3 and 4 all the way around.
5) Once done, you can "massage" the center area to make a circle.

Psst. Taut.

I do enough proofreading that this unduly enraged me. :(

Interesting as to which puzzles people have trouble with, and which puzzles people don't. I think it all depends on who you have in your group - my wife solved this rope puzzle in about 5 minutes, but we had trouble with the potion puzzle at the of Lycans-Puzzle run.

Well Team Yeti did something like that, only different. We used the white ropes to tie the ghost and DM together. We weaved the black ones into a net which we cast over the director when they came to investigate. We then taunted them until they admitted that we had, in clear point of fact, actually solved the puzzle perfectly.

we agreed with their astute declaration, and having extracted a treasure stamp from them, we let them go. BTW, taunting is SooOoo much more effective when you have a bearbearian on your team!
You still got hit points! Get back in there and fight!!
