In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Feedback Needed on Relic/Legend Event Idea

Re: Feedback Needed on Relic/Legend Event Idea 10 years 7 months ago #13

I like this event! A chance to see a redux of old puzzles and encounters...a new challenge...and more true dungeon goodness!

Now to get the rest of my crew to start saving for their relics + circle of far traveling tokens!

Perhaps this new event can some how tie into the now missing four level experience slot.

A few ideas:

can hold the portal to the far realm open a little longer allowing 1 additional player to enter the far realm.

or:

can shield one ultra rare or lower while entering the far realm.

This sounds amazing! Though, I doubt I would ever be able to participate myself.

It might be difficult to balance though, since equipment would be pretty limited. Even Nightmare difficulty might be too much, especially if you don't allow consumables.

I like the idea of +3 items as relics, but it gets kinda depressing seeing all the relics already available and knowing that even if I spend a lot and work hard I'll only ever have one or two of them. :(

In principle I really like the idea of having this "epic tier" type of option, and realize it would be a pretty small and special group. But many newbies get kind of overwhelmed just learning about the concept of ultra-rares, much less transmutes, much less relics and eldriches, and much much much less legendary.

In short, I say it's an awesome idea and I hope it happens. But also keep in mind the curse of D&D: many people never give D&D a chance because it looks way too overwhelming, and TD should be careful to avoid this problem as well.

So, each token you would use costs "only" $1,000? I don't see how this makes the case that the event wouldn't be restricted to the very rich or dedicated.

I didn't say it was cheap just that you get just about everything in a 1k pack. If you are ordering at the 1k level you should be able to make a relic. I didn't say everyone can order 1k. I still think what will matter most is the cost of the cube. Jeff can make it at what ever level he wants. The ability to use relics in the event is separate from the cost of the event. If you can make the gate you can go in with no relics. You would just have no equipment. We don't know how bad that would be at this point. Is it increased difficulty that you should have relics? Or can you just play something like a wizard or monk that are less dependent on tokens in the first place.

Basically I was and am saying that we first need to know the cost of gate. If you cannot afford the cost of the gate at whatever it will be it doesn't matter anything else because you are not playing in the event.

Nobody's commented on Ticketing so far, so let me make my suggestion:

Have people use Generics, and not list it in the book. This may seem counter-intuitive, but because this mini-quest is going to be solely for people who make the Gate, then it seems it would be better suited to not list it in GenCon's book. People would buy tickets, and then have to get them refunded if they don't qualify. So, in essence, my suggestion is this: List the times on the website, show up with your Gate token, and enough generics (say $22 for half a dungeon), go in, do the dungeon, and you've had your fun for the year. Maybe allow the gate to transmit 1 other person with you, but not a whole group.

Also, as far as keeping it once per year, mark the badges somehow. This allows people to keep the token, but wouldn't allow the same groups of people to consistently fill up the slots. One run per year per player.

All in all, however, it seems like a really cool idea, and I hope it pans out.

There would need to be some scheduling done ahead of time, to prevent too many people showing up for some slots and too few at others.

It should be easy to keep it at one run per person, since the gates are soul-forged, they will have a list of names and just check you off when you run.

I don't think from GenCon's stance you could just take generics though I am not certain. I think you have to have an event to tie them to. That being said all sort of other events have things that are limited to certain people and are still listed. Tournaments come to mind. If there is a round 2 on another day you cannot sign up for round 2 even though it is in the list.

Gen-Con absolutely allows events run only with generics. D&D Next had an event on Sunday that only took generics. . .

I stand corrected. The event was still listed though correct? That was more of what I meant. There needs to be an event. They cannot just turn in generics for the sake of generics.

I would support this, but would add that maybe non-slotted items could get through, so a Bard might have an instrument, or Spellcasters might have scrolls. A Rogue could still bring hi/her tools as well  I am pretty sure I would be nearly naked stepping through the gate, but that may make it that much more fun :)

I see what you mean. You could do it like Wizards did with their D&D run and list it but say this event requires Generics and a Special token, and not allow registration.

As far as checking names off a list, it would create a very time consuming process, especially considering the lack of light in the TD area. Marking the badge is simple in that check the token, mark the badge. You dont have to spend time searching for a name on a list. Also, what happens if someone loses the list.

A final suggestion randomize the parties. When someone checks in, send them to a random room. I think that would be fun.

Newb here again. It would be many years until I could probably do such an event however, I think the idea is great. Being a higher level and having a unique experience, story, and adventure and not just a harder flavor of the same one that peeps like me get to enjoy is a smashing idea. I think it gives even greater value to working hard and making your way up the food chain so to speak.

Another fun twist that everyone might hate is perhaps even looking at a perma-death version in which there are far greater rewards but your character dies for good if you don't make it (not for the timid).
