I guess that's part of the problem I have. I asked that NPC if he had any rumors or had heard any tales from the dungeon ahead and was told no in so many words

You might be thinking of the wrong NPC. There was a rogue/bard type that came into the coaching rooms (where you get your party card filled out) and he offered to tell us rumors in exchange for helping him out.

There was a cloaked figure in the training room (the place with the slider board, practice rogue box and caster charts) who refreshed us on the storyline and sent us forth. That fellow didn't know anything beyond the intro lines, really.

We also didn't see the bribe guy on our Normal mode puzzle run on Friday, but we did see him before our Nightmare combat run the next night. So, maybe some people just missed out.

Ducks made far better bribes than gold for most monsters and NPC's this year.

Therein might be the problem. We never saw the rogue/bard type guy in the coaching room, only the cloaked fellow in the training room

No one (other than 3 coaches trying to decide who got the group) came to visit us during building the party card, and the training room NPC didn't have any info for us.

If you're gonna do something like this, please make sure that every group has an equal opportunity. That's just not fair.

Everyone in our group remembers 10 switches in the last room, but it looks like everyone here is referencing 8, which leads to more than 8 possible combinations. Were more switches added for Nightmare, and we got the wrong room??? <Br>
That last room left a bad taste in our mouths, especially with the ONLY bad volunteer we faced in 2 runs this year. He actually disappeared for a few minutes to talk to someone outside the room! And when we pushed the button, he would very deliberately walk sloooooowly around before giving us an answer. <br>
Overall, we had a great time with great volunteers and amazing monsters (LOVED the ent), but I didn't like that a combat run ended on an all-or-nothing puzzle.

I may be incorrect in referencing 8 switches, there might have been 10 and I am mis-remembering. If so, then you are right...there certainly are more than 8 combinations.

NPC never came to our room. Our party did well the whole dungeon only to lose it all in the last room.
