In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

Hiya all....

Im super excited to finally get to play in TD Lycans Afoot -combat for my first TD game. Super newbie question for ya. Is there only 1 of each class allowed in a party, or can there be multiples....like 3 clerics for instance?
I know my gf really wants to play a cleric.....but she may have to have a plan b or c...... thanks for answering a simple question.....and wish us luck!!!!

Yes, only 1 class in each party during that adventure.

normally it's first in first picked, tho being a long term player has some privileges in choosing.

best advice is get there early and be prepared to talk it out with the other players.

That is correct about players choosing classes. Any player 3rd level and above gets to choose their class before those of lower level. So, you could be there first as a new player and pick your class, but just remember if a player shows up who is 3rd level or higher, they could pick the class you already chose and take it.

...and don't be afraid to go outside your comfort zone - try a 'slider' (fighter class), a 'caster' (wizard) and a 'stranger' (druid, rogue, bard). Get a feel for all the classes before settling. The classes carry a lot of the flavor of a traditional roleplaying game, but there's enough differences to encourage you to try all.
You still got hit points! Get back in there and fight!!

So with the new 50 min show up time does that mean you are out of luck if you plan an event before your TD time?

If you are doing back to back adventures can you check in for both at the same time and reserve the character you want?

Can one member of a group hold characters for those that havent shown up?

Assuming that you cant talk it out,I thought if there was a conflict that you just rolled off to decide with 3rd level players having preferance?

Last year was my first time in TD and I did three pick up groups off the wait list and got to pick from the left overs which was no big deal for me as I had no tokens and got some help from an experienced player.

The max show up time has been reduced to 30 minutes from 50.

All players level 3 and higher pick characters first. They roll off any conflicts. Those below level 3 follow the same way.

I cannot answer your other questions with what is the official answer. This article has quiet a lengthy discussion on picking classes and showing up. I don't believe anything definitive was reached but still may be worth the read.

Yes, you are correct; technically, if it comes to it, 3+ levels roll off and pick, then newer players roll off and pick. The first come comment is probably because many people operate that way to avoid conflict, but late comers do haave just as much right to classes if they want to challenge. Although, the wait list people may get stuck with leftover classes just due to time constraints

As a rule, no you cannot hold characters for other players.

And yes, most of the time you can talk it out. Generally, totally new players don't have enough tokens for their character class to matter, so if a more experienced shows up wanting the spot, and they have all the tokens for that spot, a new player is wiser to let the more experienced player have the spot for the good of a party.

And as mentioned, wait-list players generally take whatever is left over.

I have only seen the Player Level rule invoked to settle a dispute over class one time. Most of the time people talk it out.

^^ What Crow of Pyke said.

To elaborate, the most successful adventuring parties are ones which work as a *team*

That often means some give & take during Class choice, because some players will be equipped to the teeth to play a certain character class, or others might have the skill test memorized (I know one excellent cleric who memorized all the beads and hasn't failed a spell check in years) and others may be at excellent hand-eye coordination for sliding. Letting your team mates play to their strengths is a HUGE factor in beating the dungeon.

That said, sometimes people really*really*really want to play a certain class, even though they aren't as well equipped for it, or haven't practiced much. More than once I have seen a higher level character with tons of tokens give up their preferred class to let a newbie play it, just because that new guy was so enthusiastic about it. Why? Because that sort of cooperation & consideration *also* builds up the team.

I've coached for 3 years, and - like Crow - only seen dice used once to settle a class selection argument. Most of the time, people talk it out. Often an experienced player will lend a less experienced player extra equipment/tokens to help him outfit a class he might not have been prepared for, so the group as a whole still comes out ahead.

The addition of the elf wizard and the dwarf fighter made selection a little easier - t=now two people can be fighters, and two people can be wizards.

Yes, you can check in for both dungeons at the same time if you have back to back runs. In fact, this is strongly encouraged. Just explain to the hostess of your second adventure that you have back to back runs.

Note: Unless you're doing the exact same run (e.g., Lycans Combat followed by Lycans Combat), you will need to visit two different hostesses. Check in for your first run first, then visit the hostess for the second run.

Havakavula wrote: and reserve the character you want?

No. You don't reserve your character with TD, you select it with your party in the coaching room before your adventure starts. If you have friends on your second run, you could ask them to say there will be a person coming who wants to play class X, but that is in no way a guarantee that you will be able to play it.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
