In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

TOPIC: Treasure Tokens

Treasure Tokens 10 years 9 months ago #1

I have always enjoyed trying to understand the way a system works.
So what happens to the treasure tokens that get turned in?
Do they get turned into next years tokens?
What about the consumable tokens(Healing and such)?
How do they get back into circulation or is it a finite resource that will eventually be completly consumed?

I know this goes outside the game and more into the business of TD but I think a recycle system of some sort wouldnt be out of the question.

Healing potions and consumables get destroyed. Some tokens may end up in treasure boxes but treasure tokens themselves are printed with the year. That means they get destroyed.

Not sure on this part but I think trade tokens get recycled. Things like mystic silk and dwarven steel get put back into the vault of trade tokens so that they can be handed out in exchange again. No reason not too reuse those tokens. As to the stuff that gets turned in for them, those tokens for the most part are destroyed.

Sometimes rares and such will end up in the treasure pull boxes and I have heard that some of the Ultra Rares turned in end up there also. The Monster bits are printed for that particular year. I personally have never seen an older monster bit pulled from a treasure box.

Most of this is just conjecture on the part of players but the evidence to date seems to bear this out.
You can't fix stupid but you can TPK it.

I know that old monster bits were used in the treasure map box last year, as I pulled 20 items and got 10 old monster bits.

I wonder though that now the backing is the same, if the "destroyed" tokens are sent back to the manufacturer and if they remove the printed image stickers and use reuse any undamaged backs.

I believe Jeff has stated in the past that if you found the particular garbage dump that his area delivers to that you could go "treasure hunting" for the destroyed tokens.

I have been seriously trying to find where Jeff said something about this, but starting to think it may have been at a Token Party.

Do what all good adventurers do. Go to a tavern and listen for rumors...

I've seen even some commons pulled from treasure boxes, but they were woodies. Likewise, I've pulled old monster bits and prior years' consumable rares as well.

I suspect that many more tokens are held in reserve than we anticipate. The value of the metal/plastic I suspect is too high to just "destroy" them, especially considering the titanic mass of commons out there. But pulling the stickers off (which, out of curiosity, I tried and can tell you is easy and leaves the token clean and ready for a new label) is no quick and easy task...unless they have a special machine to do it or have a horde of workers in China or something...
