Bartering at Gencon
In 2013 our plans call for us to add an additional adventure to the event. There will be two consecutive adventure modules, and each module will have two variations of either a combat or puzzle orientation. The first module called “Lycans Afoot” tasks the party to travel through a dark forest in search of a tower, while the second module called “Golembane” challenges the party to reach the top of tower.

While I know we can't exchange money for tokens, I am sure we can trade GP or other tokens. What about using the generic tickets that we can buy at Gencon as currency? I couldn't find anything forbidding this, but would appreciate to hear what our fellow forumites think/know about this.

Generic tickets do not have any cash value but they do have credit value for future Gen Con events.

That might be a sticking point and someone on the GC staff could say that you are selling tokens by taking generics for them. It is certainly a gray area.

I probably wouldn't risk it. GENCON has a pretty good motive for not allowing it, as they probably want to stay the only source for generic tickets.

if someone wants to buy tokens from me..i do what i always do..leave the convention area...go across the street to the restaurant and make the transaction there

if you mean paid cash online..then you deliver..nothing against that

if arranged online then both exchange, would be the same as cash purchase

So, even if you have a dated email record proving it was arranged before gencon started, if cash changes hands at the con you could get banned?

What if all the arrangements are made at gencon, but you direct the person to your paypal or amazon account, then give them the item right there after getting the email notification of the payment?

that could be a work around for actual cash exchanging hands..but the fact that you are selling it in the convention area will be against it...just go across the street to the hotel for the exchange

Yeah, I have done the walk across the street thing, was just wondering if there might be a diff angle to take. I asked about generics mainly due to the ability to pay for a pick up run with generics and that I can use them to pay for MTG drafting, lol.

Also, does the "no selling" prohibition also apply to Wednesday (or even earlier), before GenCon has officially started?
